Riverdale star KJ Apa is stepping into a new role \u2014 and no, it\u2019s not Mr. Fantasy<\/a>. The teaser trailer<\/a> for his upcoming biopic, Jimmy, features Apa as actor James \u201cJimmy\u201d Stewart, and his transformation \u2014\u00a0and voice \u2014 shows he\u2019s really melting into the role.<\/p>\n

Per the new teaser, the film begins with Stewart \u2014 who rose to fame in the \u201830s and starred in films like It\u2019s a Wonderful Life, Rear Window and The Philadelphia Story \u2014\u00a0at the height of his movie career. Apa speaks with Stewart\u2019s unique accent<\/a> throughout the trailer.<\/p>\n

In the teaser, Stewart\u2019s enjoyment as a movie star sours as World War II brews. He wants to fight but gets pushback from both Hollywood and the military.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t I have the right to serve my country just like anyone else does?\u201d Apa\u2019s Stewart asks a military official, played by Rob Riggle.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica can\u2019t afford to lose Jimmy Stewart,\u201d Riggle\u2019s character responds.<\/p>\n

But Stewart doesn\u2019t give up and ultimately enlists in the fight.<\/p>\n

In real life, Stewart, who came from a military family,\u00a0enlisted in the Army in 1941, becoming the first major movie star to join the armed forces in World War II. He returned to the United States in 1945, one year before the release of what might be his most famous film, Frank Capra\u2019s It\u2019s a Wonderful Life.<\/p>\n

The film also stars Jason Alexander, Kara Killmer, Sarah Drew and Max Casella.<\/p>\n

Apa starred as Archie Andrews on the CW\u2019s Riverdale from 2017 to 2023. He recently appeared in Prime Video\u2019s romantic drama The Map That Leads to You, opposite Madelyn Cline. In November, he appeared as Gene in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie on Disney+.<\/p>\n

In addition to his work onscreen, Apa has seemingly launched a music career as his alter ego Mr. Fantasy, though it\u2019s unlikely the two will admit they are one and the same. Mr. Fantasy performed live<\/a> for the first time at the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.<\/p>\n
