Christian Bale\u00a0is Frankenstein\u2019s Monster and\u00a0Jessie Buckley\u00a0is the Bride of Frankenstein in director\u00a0Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s\u00a0The Bride!, and Entertainment Weekly<\/a> has shared several new images along with fresh insights from the filmmaker this afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Bride!\u00a0is set for theatrical release on\u00a0March 6, 2026, and Gyllenhaal explains to EW that the project was born out of her realization that James Whale\u2019s original classic\u00a0Bride of Frankenstein isn\u2019t actually about the iconic Bride of Frankenstein at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree minutes [of screentime], maybe, and honestly, not until the very end. It\u2019s a Frankenstein movie,\u201d Gyllenhaal explains. \u201cAnd I will say, a lot of people, friends or people who\u2019ve heard I was making this, would say, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re making Frankenstein.\u2019 And I just sort of sweetly say, \u2018No, I\u2019m making the Bride of Frankenstein.\u2019 And, in effect, it\u2019s actually just the Bride, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Gyllenhaal teases, \u201cWe get to see a little bit of who she was before she\u2019s brought back to life as the Bride. In a way, everything about the movie has an extreme mythological quality. She\u2019s almost every woman in a way. Before she\u2019s brought back, you watch her deal with a lot of shit. And she puts up with it, but she comes back with a very strong need to express herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the upcoming film, \u201cA lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee\u00a0Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!\u201d<\/p>\n

The film also stars\u00a0Peter Sarsgaard, Academy Award nominee\u00a0Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar winner\u00a0Pen\u00e9lope Cruz. Maggie Gyllenhaal directs from her own screenplay.<\/p>\n
