\n\tBeta Film<\/a>, one of Europe\u2019s biggest independent production-distribution players, has clinched a wide-ranging multi-territory sale to Canal+<\/a> across a selection of Beta titles, led by the sexually-souped thriller \u201cThe Couple Next Door<\/a>,\u201d starring \u201cOutlanders\u201d lead Sam Hueughan, and Berlinale 2025 hit thriller \u201cOther People\u2019s Money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUnder the terms of the deal, Canal+ will roll out the higher-end Beta Film series across Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Belgium and the Netherlands, among other territories. The deal spans multiple windows and platforms across Canal+\u2019s regional services, Beta Film announced Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTitles announced in the deal are heavy on crime \u2013 the common currency of Europe\u2019s TV trading these days \u2013 from a subplot in \u201cThe Couple Next Door\u201d to the extraordinary tax fraud in \u201cOther People\u2019s Money\u201d to crime drama \u201cCold Summer\u201d and the detective procedural \u201cMakari \u2013 Sicilian Mysteries\u201d and true-events based criminal underworld thriller \u201cEl Inmortal: Gangs of Madrid.\u201d It also takes it, however, coming of age series \u201cPrisma\u201d and \u201cLast to Break,\u201d a bio of Finnish motorcycling racer Jarno Saarinen.<\/p>\n

\n\tWorld premiering its first four episodes at this year\u2019s Berlinale,\u201d \u201cOther People\u2019s Money\u201d is produced by Germany\u2019s X-Filme Creative Pool, behind European premium TV milestone \u201cBabylon Berlin,\u201d and Denmark\u2019s True Content Entertainment\u2019s, whose producer Ole S\u00f8ndberg was behind \u201cThe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo\u201d and \u201cWallander.\u201d They are backed by German and Danish public broadcasters ZDF and DR.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOther People\u2019s Money\u201d chronicles the biggest tax scam in European history, accounting for \u20ac146 billion ($170.8 billion), engineered by banks and ultra-rich investors, where the key issue is whether the fraud is even illegal and can its perpetrators be prosecuted. Created and showrunner by Jan Schomburg (\u201cI\u2019m Your Man,\u201d \u201cAbove Us Only Sky\u201d), the series was hailed by Der Spiegel as a \u201cperfectly formed, eight-part masterpiece.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom Eagle Eye (\u201cBookish\u201d), executive produced by Walter Iuzzolino and Jo McGrath and is made in association with Beta Film, and backed by Channel 4 and Starz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Couple Next Door\u201d features a top-notch cast \u2013\u00a0 Heughan, Alfred Enoch (\u201cHow to Get Away With Murder\u201d), Eleanor Tomlinson (\u201cPoldark\u201d) and Jessica De Gouw (\u201cThe Huntress\u201d), with Tomlinson playing the deeply traumatised Evie who moves with her straight-laced husband Pete (Enoch) into a seemingly perfect well-healed suburb of Leeds in Northern England \u2013 until she develops an increasingly deranged sexual obsession for neighbor Danny (a hunky Heughan.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWritten by David Allison (\u201cMarcella,\u201d \u201cBedlam\u201d) and directed by the awarded Dries Vos (\u201cSuspect,\u201d \u201cProfessor T\u201d), \u201cThe Couple Next Door\u201d was one of Channel 4\u2019s biggest drama streaming launches, also punching a robust linear debut. It sold to over 55 territories in early dealing, \u00a0including to NBC Universal for Latin America, RTL in Germany, RAI in Italy and a first-window deal with Amazon in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

\n\tBowing in Canneseries\u2019 main competition in 2022,\u201d \u201cEl Inmortal \u2013 Gangs of Madrid,\u201dproduced by Movistar Plus+ and Telemundo Int. Studios in collaboration with Banijay\u2019s DLO Producciones, tracks the rise of the founding leader of Los Miami, a gang which controlled Madrid\u2019s insatiable \u201890s drug business, tensed by sudden explosive violence, and the drug-lord\u2019s multiple near-death experiences. It scored best action series at the Produ Awards 2023 and best actor in a Drama Series (Alejandro Garc\u00eda) at the Almer\u00eda Film Festival 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tProduced by Clemart, Italian mafia series \u201cCold Summer\u201d sold to SBS Australia and Walter Presents in the U.S. and Canada ahead of its linear U.K. premiere on Channel 4. It broke records on its home turf on RAI Italy, premiering with peak viewership at 4.6 million and a hitting a standout 23% market share.<\/p>\n

\n\tRenewed for a second season, Amazon Italian original \u201cPrisma,\u201d about adolescent twin teens challenging gender norms, won the Premio Kin\u00e9o 2024 best actor award for Mattia Carrano, who plays both twins. Beta-owned Cross Productions produces.<\/p>\n

\n\tUnspooling in Sicily, \u201cMakari \u2013 Sicilian Mysteries\u201d is produced by Mediawan-owned Palomar (\u201cInspector Montalbano,\u201d \u201cThe Name of the Rose\u201d). Lauded as \u201cthe other \u2018Montalbano\u2019\u201d by newspaper Corriere della Sera, it proved a RAI primetime winner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLast to Break\u201d is produced by Helsinki-based Funfar (\u201cBad Company\u201d), co-produced by Fireframe and Finnish pubcaster YLE, written by Sami Keski-V\u00e4h\u00e4l\u00e4 (\u201cGracious Night,\u201d \u201cBrothers\u201d) and directed by Simon Kaijser (\u201cSpinning Man,\u201d \u201cBefore We Die\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tIt captures the shocking mortal danger of early \u201870s motorcycle racing as Finn Saarinen \u2013 dashing, charismatic, an extraordinary and meticulous racer but still the underdog \u2013\u00a0\u00a0takes on three time and reigning world champion Giacomo Agostini in the 1972 350cc World Championship.
