{"id":200156,"date":"2025-12-19T13:12:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T13:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/200156\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T13:12:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T13:12:10","slug":"who-launches-its-first-strategic-and-technical-advisory-group-on-traditional-complementary-and-integrative-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/200156\/","title":{"rendered":"WHO launches its first Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sf-image-responsive=\"true\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/stag-tm-inaugural-meeting-group-photo-traditional-medicine.jpeg\" height=\"747\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto;\" title=\"stag tm inaugural meeting group photo traditional medicine\" width=\"1222\" alt=\"Group of people pose for a photo opportunity in Delhi, India\" sf-size=\"269907\"\/><\/p>\n<p>WHO has\u00a0established\u00a0the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (STAG-TM),\u00a0reflecting\u00a0WHO\u2019s growing capacity to apply scientific\u00a0rigour\u00a0to traditional medicine.\u00a0The establishment of the\u00a0Group\u00a0represents\u00a0a significant step in implementing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/publications\/i\/item\/9789240113176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-sf-ec-immutable=\"\">WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025\u20132034<\/a>,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a pivotal moment for traditional\u00a0medicine.\u00a0It embodies cultural heritage and national health identities, and increasingly, it\u00a0constitutes\u00a0a vital\u00a0component\u00a0of primary health care strategies,&#8221; said Dr Yukiko\u00a0Nakatani,\u00a0WHO\u2019s\u00a0Assistant\u00a0Director-General\u00a0for\u00a0Health System,\u00a0Access\u00a0and Data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr Sylvie Briand, WHO Chief Scientist,\u00a0said:\u00a0&#8220;Its\u00a0rapid growth has not always been matched by\u00a0strong evidence\u00a0standards, regulatory\u00a0frameworks\u00a0or sustainable governance. The STAG was created to close this gap. It is not an academic exercise, but a formal WHO advisory mechanism providing independent,\u00a0strategic\u00a0and scientific guidance to help Member States navigate an increasingly complex and evolving field.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0STAG-TM will advise WHO on\u00a0strategic direction\u00a0for\u00a0traditional\u00a0medicine\u00a0at global level\u00a0by\u00a0providing:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>scientific advice to shape global research priorities;\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n        technical support to develop norms and standards;\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n        recommendations on\u00a0approaches to integrate\u00a0traditional medicine\u00a0into health\u00a0systems;\u00a0andassistance\u00a0to\u00a0WHO in articulating policy options for Member States.\u00a0&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0group\u00a0comprises\u00a019 independent experts appointed through an open global selection process, ensuring multidisciplinary\u00a0expertise\u00a0and balanced geographic and gender representation.
