Spencer Matthews<\/a> has opened up about a significant change he made to save his relationship with wife Vogue Williams.<\/a> The 37-year-old, who tied the knot with Vogue, 40, in 2018, said he realised he needed to make a U-turn on his behaviour when the model started to lose interest.<\/p>\n The couple first met while participating in the Channel 4<\/a> sports programme The Jump<\/a> back in 2017. After a whirlwind romance, the pair were married the following year and now have three young children together.<\/p>\n Looking back on the moment they met, Spencer confessed that he had “big problems with alcohol”, revealing: “I spent the majority of my fee [from the show], I think, on the bar bill.”<\/p>\n In a heart-to-heart with Davina McCall<\/a> on her Begin Again podcast, the former Made In Chelsea<\/a> star disclosed that after falling for Vogue, he consciously decided to better himself.<\/p>\n “I went sober for her initially, it then almost immediately became for me as well, I just had no idea about the profound impact that would have on me,” he added.<\/p>\n “But initially it was for her, not at her request by the way, I could just see the relationship slipping. I could see that she would lose interest in me and put me on some scrap heap somewhere if I didn’t make an actual change to my own health.”<\/p>\n Spencer further admitted: “The fear of losing her was quite real. I hope I’m not offending anyone, but, I’ve never felt that before in previous relationships.”<\/p>\n Reflecting on his past behaviour, he continued: “You know, I was quite selfish, I’d go out and drink all night and do whatever I wanted really.”<\/p>\n Looking back on his heavy-drinking period, Spencer said he now refers to that era as his “former self”, claiming he has “nothing in common with him” anymore.<\/p>\n Despite being a prolific drinker throughout his stint on The Jump, Spencer chose to go teetotal for a fortnight before the final in his quest for victory.<\/p>\n During this time, Vogue, who was hospitalised after suffering an injury on the programme, playfully suggested she’d consider dating him if he clinched the title.<\/p>\n This strategy worked brilliantly, as he managed to defeat Louis Smith by nearly a full metre in the final leap.<\/p>\n “I’d like to think I would’ve won anyway,” he quipped about Vogue’s remark. “But it was in the back of my mind.”<\/p>\n Following the programme’s conclusion, Spencer and Vogue embarked on their first date to Disneyland Paris.<\/p>\n Speaking previously about the trip on Giovanna Fletcher’s Journey to the Magic podcast, Vogue remarked: “He likes to claim it was our first date [but] I organised it.<\/p>\n “[It was] our first proper date, our first holiday that we ever had together.<\/p>\n “It’s kind of complicated because we went away, and we did the show [The Jump] together and that was in November.<\/p>\n![\"Two](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_GettyImages-2185127029.jpg\")
