Juggling her many business ventures, constant travel and hectic commuting schedule, she still makes time to exercise \u201creligiously\u201d at 6:30 a.m. nearly every day\u2014and she\u2019s not slowing down any time soon.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u201cI&#8217;ve worked out ever since I can remember,\u201d Martha tells Women\u2019s Health. When she\u2019s not in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69607350\/best-pilates-moves-for-strength-training-benefits-pilates-x-lift\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69607350\/best-pilates-moves-for-strength-training-benefits-pilates-x-lift\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Pilates\" data-node-id=\"4.3\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pilates<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69707130\/how-much-muscle-you-can-gain-10-weeks-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69707130\/how-much-muscle-you-can-gain-10-weeks-review\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"weight lifting\" data-node-id=\"4.5\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">weight lifting<\/a> session, she never stops moving. \u201cI walk a whole lot. I garden a whole lot. I go to work in New York [City] pretty much five days a week or do my traveling,\u201d she says. But her busy schedule is nothing she can\u2019t take on\u2014she\u2019s always lived this way.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">In fact, Martha says her workout routine has barely changed throughout her life. \u201cI might not be as energetic as I used to be, but I&#8217;m pretty good,\u201d she says. \u201cThe amount of weights and things that I use are pretty much the same as they&#8217;ve always been, so I&#8217;m strong. I&#8217;m very strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">I\u2019ll say. Ahead, learn all the ins and outs of Martha\u2019s exercise routine at 84, how gardening keeps her active, and some of her favourite recipes to make this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>Martha\u2019s main workouts are Pilates and weight training<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">On Tuesdays and Thursdays, she\u2019s at the gym bright and early weight lifting with her trainer. During their 45-minute sessions, they\u2019re hitting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a706203\/how-to-pick-the-right-weights\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a706203\/how-to-pick-the-right-weights\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"dumbbells\" data-node-id=\"14.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">dumbbells<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69642897\/best-gym-machines-over-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69642897\/best-gym-machines-over-50\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"machines\" data-node-id=\"14.3\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">machines<\/a>. Then, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (or Saturdays, depending on her schedule), she\u2019s with her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a69276138\/exhale-classical-mat-pilates-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a69276138\/exhale-classical-mat-pilates-course\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Pilates instructor\" data-node-id=\"14.5\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pilates instructor<\/a> at 6:30 a.m. working on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a68038671\/full-body-30-minute-mat-pilates-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a68038671\/full-body-30-minute-mat-pilates-workout\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"mat\" data-node-id=\"14.7\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mat<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69540299\/jennifer-aniston-workout-pvolve\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a69540299\/jennifer-aniston-workout-pvolve\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"reformer\" data-node-id=\"14.9\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reformer<\/a>. \u201cI do a very intense program and it&#8217;s nonstop for 45 minutes,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"16\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Martha loves Pilates because it helps her work on her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a69603991\/5-minute-daily-workout-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a69603991\/5-minute-daily-workout-study\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"flexibility\" data-node-id=\"16.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">flexibility<\/a>. \u201cIt also is very good for strengthening one&#8217;s bones, keeping one limber, working with aches and pains, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a65098347\/static-stretches\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a65098347\/static-stretches\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"stretching\" data-node-id=\"16.3\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">stretching<\/a> out.\u201d The stretching is particularly important because Martha sits in the car for extended periods of time while commuting to New York City from Bedford, New York. \u201cIt&#8217;s hard to sit all that time\u2014you have to do a lot of stretching,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"19\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">She also loves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/yoga\/a703722\/how-to-use-yoga-for-weight-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/yoga\/a703722\/how-to-use-yoga-for-weight-loss\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"yoga\" data-node-id=\"19.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">yoga<\/a>, but doesn&#8217;t practice it as religiously as Pilates. \u201cPilates reminds me a little bit of yoga,\u201d she says. \u201cI end with yoga stretches on blocks at Pilates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"21\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Of course, Martha has been a lifelong gardener, which has also kept her flexible and mobile. She started gardening \u201cas soon as I could walk and sit out in the garden,\u201d she says. Her father taught her gardening and introduced her to the gardening brand <a href=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/miraclegro.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/miraclegro.html\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Miracle-Gro\" data-node-id=\"21.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Miracle-Gro<\/a>, for which she\u2019s now the Chief Gardening Officer. \u201cI&#8217;ve been a Miracle-Gro fan for a very, very long time,\u201d she says. Martha has worked with the brand through segments on her television show and through a newsletter. She specifically <a href=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/brands\/miracle-gro\/products\/potting-mix\/miracle-gro-indoor-potting-mix-for-all-plants\/72776892.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/brands\/miracle-gro\/products\/potting-mix\/miracle-gro-indoor-potting-mix-for-all-plants\/72776892.html\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"loves\" data-node-id=\"21.3\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">loves<\/a> their new <a href=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/miracle-gro-organics.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/scottsmiraclegro.com\/en-us\/miracle-gro-organics.html\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"organic soil\" data-node-id=\"21.5\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">organic soil<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"23\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Martha is frequently moving around in her big greenhouses and vegetable garden and on the ground planting trees, shrubs, and other crops. \u201cI&#8217;m always outside directing or working on various projects,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"25\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Martha\u2019s goal with her fitness routine is to see more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a69658887\/simple-lower-body-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/workouts\/a69658887\/simple-lower-body-workout\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"muscle definition\" data-node-id=\"25.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">muscle definition<\/a>, and no matter how busy she is, she\u2019s dedicated to fitting in her workouts. \u201cEven when I get home late at night, I still go and do my workout,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Martha also cooks healthy dishes with the produce from her garden<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"28\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">In her vegetable greenhouse, she grows all the veggies she needs for her morning green juice. \u201cThat&#8217;s a priority,\u201d she says. The recipe: spinach, cucumbers, parsley, celery, and mint\u2014Martha also sometimes adds half an orange (peel included!) and ginger. \u201cI grow that [produce] year-round,\u201d she adds. \u201cIt&#8217;s very important that they be grown in my own organic soil, and it makes delicious juice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"30\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">This time of year, Martha also makes lots of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/food\/g63483156\/salad-recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/food\/g63483156\/salad-recipes\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"salads\" data-node-id=\"30.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">salads<\/a> and vegetable soups with celery root, celeriac, squash, and tomatoes. \u201cSaturday, I had a friend come over for lunch and I put a butternut squash soup with a tomato soup, and it made a delicious combination,\u201d with some roasted sweet potatoes on the side, she says. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">For dessert, they ate pomegranate seeds. \u201cIt couldn&#8217;t have been more delicious or more healthy, for that matter,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"34\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Sounds absolutely delicious, Martha!
