Kylie Minogue<\/a> has made history by landing the coveted Christmas Number One spot with \u2018XMAS\u2019.<\/p>\n

Her eighth official UK Number One, it makes Kylie the only female solo artist to have topped the chart in four different decades \u2013 something only\u00a0Elton John<\/a>,\u00a0Elvis Presley <\/a>and Queen <\/a>have previously done.<\/p>\n

It follows on from her new Christmas album \u2018Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped)\u2019,\u00a0a re-release of the original album on its 10th\u00a0anniversary<\/a>,\u00a0which also topped the UK Albums Chart last week, and brings Kylie level with\u00a0David Bowie<\/a>,\u00a0Eminem<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rod Stewart<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a011 Number One albums.<\/p>\n

Speaking about \u2018XMAS\u2019 hitting the top spot, Kylie has said:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0hard to put into words how special this feels. Being Christmas Number One really is the most wonderful gift!\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0so thankful to everyone\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0been listening and sharing the love and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018XMAS\u2019 is also the first Amazon Music Original single ever to reach Number One,\u00a0and\u00a0Kylie recently spoke to\u00a0NME\u00a0about the track\u2019s success<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s been amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cLike with all songs, once they go out into the world, all you want is for them to go out and have their own life. So now\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0pretty weird\u00a0and amazing having people doing the \u2018XMAS\u2019 [dance on such a wide scale]. I think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0going to follow me around forever!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw that a whole village in Devon\u00a0made a video<\/a>\u00a0doing the \u2018XMAS\u2019 dance together,\u201d she added. \u201cIt was like [CMAT<\/a>\u2019s] \u2018the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker\u2019\u00a0trend, and it made me very emotional. To see straight away that it has connected with people and that it means something to them\u2026\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the other contenders for Christmas Number One was \u2018Lullaby<\/a>\u2019, a charity single from\u00a0Together For Palestine<\/a> that included contributions from Brian Eno<\/a>,\u00a0Celeste<\/a>,\u00a0Bastille<\/a>\u2018s Dan Smith, Leigh-Anne <\/a>and others. That track landed at Number Five.<\/p>\n

Wham!\u2019s ubiquitous \u2018Last Christmas\u2019 had topped the Christmas singles chart for the last two years<\/a>, but just missed out this time around, landing at Number Two. Mariah Carey<\/a>\u2019s \u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019, Brenda Lee\u2019s \u2018Rockin\u2019 Around The Christmas Tree\u2019 and The Pogues<\/a> and Kirsty MacColl<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Fairytale Of New York\u2019 also made the top six.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kylie Minogue has made history by landing the coveted Christmas Number One spot with \u2018XMAS\u2019.
