It comes after he won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/golf\/2025\/12\/18\/rory-mcilroy-wins-bbc-sports-personality-of-the-year-for-the-first-time\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/golf\/2025\/12\/18\/rory-mcilroy-wins-bbc-sports-personality-of-the-year-for-the-first-time\/\">BBC Sports Personality of the Year<\/a> for the first time on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Swimmer John Shortt was crowned RT\u00c9 Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year. The Galway youngster was gold-medallist in the 200m Backstroke at the European Short-Course Championships and won double gold at the World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Stephen Bradley\u2019s success at Shamrock Rovers, including a first League and FAI Cup double for the Hoops since 1987 as well as qualifying again for the UEFA Europa Conference League league phase, saw him take home the RT\u00c9 Sport Manager of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/golf\/2025\/12\/19\/malachy-clerkin-rory-mcilroy-is-special-because-of-his-vulnerabilities-as-much-as-his-victories\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malachy Clerkin: Rory McIlroy is special because of his vulnerabilities as much as his victoriesOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Kerry won their 39th All-Ireland title this summer seeing off Donegal in the final to bring the Sam Maguire Cup back to the Kingdom to put alongside the Allianz Football league trophy which they also won this year. This evening they were named RT\u00c9 Sport Team of the Year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Also tonight, legendary Irish hooker and captain Ciar\u00e1n Fitzgerald was inducted into the RT\u00c9 Sport Hall of Fame.
