Liverpool have announced Alexander Isak fractured his ankle during Saturday\u2019s victory over Tottenham and has undergone surgery.<\/p>\n
The striker was hurt in a challenge from Micky van de Ven in the act of scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 victory and limped off the pitch.<\/p>\n
A statement on liverpoolfc.com read: \u201cAfter diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsak\u2019s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jamie Carragher defended Van de Ven for his tackle on Alexander Isak but admits the striker\u2019s absence is a \u201chuge blow\u201d for the Reds.<\/p>\n
The Swede was injured in the act of scoring Liverpool\u2019s opening goal against Tottenham on Saturday, with Van de Ven wrapping his legs around Isak\u2019s left leg.<\/p>\n
Former Reds defender Carragher said on Sky Sports: \u201cIt\u2019s a huge blow because I think Liverpool were actually one attacker short anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot been made about a lot of the challenges in the game from Tottenham players and a lot of them weren\u2019t clever. I\u2019ve put myself in Van de Ven\u2019s position and that’s a challenge I\u2019d probably make.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s trying to block it, it\u2019s just the follow through. I don\u2019t know where else anyone thinks his foot\u2019s going to go. He has to make that challenge. You can\u2019t let the striker just get a shot away there in that situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just really bad luck for Isak. It\u2019s probably one of the first glimpses we’ve seen of his real quality in a Liverpool shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carragher believes Isak’s injury is unlikely to influence Liverpool too much in terms of the January transfer window, with Slot boasting options in wide areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think for certain now Mo Salah will be staying at the club,\u201d he said. \u201cI think there\u2019s a good chance Harvey Elliott will come back from Aston Villa as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, and Carragher added: \u201cI think we all know he\u2019s got a buy-out clause in January, and then you\u2019ve got wide players in Salah and (Cody) Gakpo, who\u2019ve played a lot of games through the middle as well.<\/p>\n
