{"id":208444,"date":"2025-12-24T10:55:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T10:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/208444\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T10:55:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T10:55:07","slug":"shocking-number-of-motorists-caught-speeding-across-ireland-amid-christmas-rush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/208444\/","title":{"rendered":"Shocking number of motorists caught speeding across Ireland amid Christmas rush"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1,038 motorists were caught speeding in an An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na national speed enforcement operation &#8211; National Slowdown Day \u2013 which ran across\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ireland-live.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ireland<\/a>\u00a0for 24 hours from 12:00am to 11:59pm today, Tuesday December 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the initiative is to promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide, coinciding with increased road use for Christmas holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Read next:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ireland-live.ie\/news\/national-news\/1974569\/nearly-400-new-speed-cameras-to-be-operational-across-ireland-from-january.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nearly 400 new speed cameras to be operational across Ireland from January<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a result of\u00a0National Slowdown Day, members of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, along with GoSafe mobile and static safety cameras, have detected nearly 150 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.<\/p>\n<p>Of these detections, 377 drivers were intercepted by Garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of the high speeds detected include:<\/p>\n<p>168 km\/h in a 100km\/h Zone on the N30 Coolamurry, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford<br \/>163 km\/h in a 120km\/h Zone on the M6 Killavally, Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath<br \/>156 km\/h in a 100km\/h Zone on the N11 Kereight, Crossabeg, Co. Wexford<br \/>148 km\/h in a 120km\/h Zone on the M4 Kilmore, Enfield, Co. Kildare<br \/>139 km\/h in a 60km\/h Zone on the Dublin Road, Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow<br \/>121 km\/h in a 80km\/h Zone on the R478 Derreen (Ed Ballysteen), Liscannor, Co. Clare<br \/>121 km\/h in a 100km\/h Zone on the R173 Rockmarshall, Jenkinstown, Co. Louth<br \/>120 km\/h in a 80km\/h Zone on the N52 Mounthenry, Birr, Co. Offaly<br \/>119 km\/h in a 50km\/h Zone on the Drummartin Link Road, Dublin 14, Co.
