What once read \u201cclean and modern\u201d now screams flat, cold, and generic. \u201cThese all-white, high-gloss kitchens of the early 2020s are officially [over],\u201d says New York Coldwell Banker Real Estate Agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coldwellbankerhomes.com\/ny\/new-york\/agent\/hannah-jackson\/aid_292747\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Hannah Jackson;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Hannah Jackson<\/a>. She says her clients have described them as \u201cfeeling like a rental,\u201d \u201cboring,\u201d and \u201cbasic\u201d at showings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cPeople are done living inside what feels like a rental showroom,\u201d says Anngelica Mohabir of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.determinedbydesign.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Determined by Design;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Determined by Design<\/a>, a design firm that focuses on Black and brown communities. \u201cThe all-white kitchen had its moment, but now it reads sterile, predictable, and frankly, a little soulless. Homeowners want spaces with pulse \u2014 not a monochrome box that looks wiped clean of personality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s no secret that all-white surfaces require a lot of maintenance. \u201cGlossy fronts show marks right away, while bright white across walls, cabinetry, and counters flatlines the room,\u201d says Jake Fry, founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallworks.ca\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Smallworks;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Smallworks<\/a>, a custom home builder company in Vancouver, Canada. \u201cFamilies tell me that they tire of the upkeep, and it no longer feels like a working kitchen. Many of my recent clients have requested the removal of these finishes, even in homes built only a few years prior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Stephanie Wong's kitchen\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/872656a76928ba124c7453d7f959ae0e.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Credit: Petra Ford<\/p>\n<p>Earth-Tone Palettes Have Taken Over Kitchens<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Agents are seeing a significant shift toward warmer earth-tone palettes in the heart of the home. \u201cPaint colors like soft taupes, muted greens, and warm grays are trending, and buyers are pairing these tones with natural wood cabinetry, textured stone countertops, and matte finishes instead of glossy surfaces,\u201d says Sain Rhodes, a real estate expert and <a href=\"https:\/\/cleveroffers.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:customer success manager at Clever Offers;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">customer success manager at Clever Offers<\/a>. \u201cWhite is not entirely gone; it\u2019s often used as an accent, like on backsplashes or trim, to maintain a sense of brightness, but the dominant color scheme is now much richer and layered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Virginia Coldwell Banker Premier Agent <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolelewis.premiermove.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nicole Lewis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Nicole Lewis<\/a> echoes this sentiment. \u201cI\u2019m seeing a lot more greens, particularly in sage and deeper earth tones, which is lovely and speaks to the call of nature, particularly with the number of butcher block countertops I\u2019m seeing,\u201d says Lewis. \u201cIt\u2019s almost as if we\u2019re bringing outside and natural tones inside.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As nature flows with the breeze, so do kitchen colors and surfaces that reflect natural fluidity, motion and visual dimension. \u201cWarm woods, moody greens, earthy taupes, and stone with actual movement are taking over because they feel lived-in, not lab-tested,\u201d says Mohabir. \u201cTextures are back \u2014 honed surfaces, plaster walls, veined stone \u2014 and they bring nuance white-on-white never could. Buyers frequently mention they want their bedrooms to feel like retreats, which is difficult to achieve with walls and furniture that are entirely white.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interior Designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saabstudios.design\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Lauren Saab;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Lauren Saab<\/a> echoes this sentiment. \u201cClients say they want the bedroom to feel cocooned, so a pure white palette fights against that goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"The large bed is against a wooden accent wall.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/632ae55942521c1d78d3106a2e6f6f9b.jpeg\"\/>Bedrooms Are Going Warm, Earthy, and Calm<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIn bedrooms, we\u2019re seeing an embrace of warmer, more muted tones such as soft beiges, earthy greens, deep blues, and even muted terracotta,\u201d says Rhodes. \u201cWhite still has a role, often on trim, accents, or bedding, but it\u2019s no longer dominating the space. Buyers are drawn to these richer colors because they make a bedroom feel intimate and layered, which is exactly what today\u2019s homeowners want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ben Kruse, a New Jersey-based realtor and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choosekruse.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:founder of Choose Kruse;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">founder of Choose Kruse<\/a>, sees the same shift. \u201cWarm neutrals, clay tones, sage greens, and muted blues are taking over, \u201d he says. \u201cWhite still appears in trim, bedding, or accents, but rarely as the dominant color. These intimate retreats appear hidden beneath staircases, nestled beside sunlit windows, and carved into niches in larger rooms, states the report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Kruse says these ultra-cozy escapes can be tailored to buyers\u2019 unique tastes. \u201cReading nooks feel intimate, functional, and easy to personalize,\u201d he says. \u201cBuyers love small corners with built-ins, warm lighting, and layered textures, as they create comfort without sacrificing a full room.\u201d It\u2019s a simple way to add character and charm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReading nooks are on the rise because they\u2019re charming and instantly cozy in larger rooms,\u201d says Saab. \u201cA built-in bench, soft lighting, and a cluster of books turn a quiet corner into an inviting moment.
