{"id":210341,"date":"2025-12-25T14:33:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-25T14:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/210341\/"},"modified":"2025-12-25T14:33:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T14:33:08","slug":"crowds-brave-chilly-temperatures-for-christmas-day-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/210341\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowds brave chilly temperatures for Christmas Day swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Huge crowds have taken part in the annual Christmas Day\u00a0swim\u00a0at a popular bathing spot in Dublin \u2013 including the \u201cForty Foot Santa\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands thronged to the Forty Foot promontory in Sandycove as people pulled on Santa hats to take part in the festive dip despite bitterly cold conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1766669102982_2.jpg--.jpg\" width=\"640\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Veteran swimmer Patrick Corkery has been doing the Christmas Day swim for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>Dressed as Santa, he joked: \u201cI just needed to do one more swim before I headed back to Lapland.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1766669102982_1.jpg--.jpg\" width=\"640\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is fantastic although it\u2019s a bit rough today. You need to keep an eye on the waves on a day like today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe water is about seven degrees.
