Singer mgk<\/a> had a very special guest when he took home the coveted Style Icon honor at the 12th Annual Fashion Media Awards \u2014 his close friend, Pete Davidson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so stoked. I tried to wait and stall until he could get here,\u201d mgk, 35, exclusively told Us Weekly while walking the red carpet at NYC\u2019s Rainbow Room on Friday, September 12. \u201cI\u2019m so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Lost Americana musician (real name Colson Baker) and Davidson, 31, have been pals since 2019<\/a> \u2014 a friendship that extends well beyond the public eye.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think both of us are such idiots that we somehow just meet in the middle somewhere,\u201d mgk quipped to Us, adding that they even had a low-key hangout the day before on Thursday, September 11. \u201cWe were watching movies and being dads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davidson and Casie were both mgk\u2019s dates on Friday, and each got sweet shout-outs in his acceptance speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to thank my estranged husband, Pete, [and] my beautiful daughter for being my support tonight. I\u2019m very nervous,\u201d mgk joked in his speech during the Casamigos-sponsored bash. \u201cI want to thank the Daily Front Row for making me feel celebrated tonight. This is truly an honor because \u2026 this is a small community, and I feel like I\u2019ve always kind of been on the outside of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cMy name is Colson. I think that my style can be unconventional.<\/a> To some, my name is unfamiliar, but I\u2019m really unapologetic with my authenticity, and what I say and what I wear. I didn\u2019t prepare a speech because I\u2019ve been feeling that preparing sometimes leads to letdowns. I\u2019ve lived a long life of those, and now I\u2019m just living in the excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rocker further stressed that he was \u201cvery grateful\u201d to receive the Style Icon honor.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m very grateful to be here and to be included in this conversation. It\u2019s a sign for me to maybe take a heavier step into fashion, designing, campaigning and modeling,\u201d mgk continued. \u201cI\u2019m 6-foot-4 and smoke an insane amount of cigarettes, so I check a lot of those boxes. I stand here as an embodiment of the American Dream.
