\n\tSigourney Weaver<\/a> recently told The New York Times<\/a> that she once stood up to James Cameron<\/a> during their first movie together, 1986\u2019s \u201cAliens<\/a>.\u201d The science-fiction action movie marked Weaver\u2019s return as Ellen Ripley after the success of Ridley Scott\u2019s \u201cAlien.\u201d Cameron was new to the franchise and was butting heads on set with a young female actor who was struggling with some of the props.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI sort of trundled up to him and I said, \u2018You know, when you yell at an actor, you yell at all of us, so understand that what she was doing actually was very hard. Maybe shoot something else while she gets used to doing this stuff the way you want it,\u2019\u201d Weaver remembered. <\/p>\n

\n\tCameron took her advice, she added. Weaver said: \u201cHe\u2019s a good guy. I really do think Jim has mellowed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor also remembered getting dinner with Cameron after the two wrapped production on \u201cAliens\u201d and \u201che hadn\u2019t been like that directing. He was wildly funny, witty. I can understand why that guy couldn\u2019t come out during \u2018Aliens,\u2019 because that was a tough shoot, especially for him. Let\u2019s put it this way: I\u2019m glad I wasn\u2019t shooting \u2018The Abyss\u2019 with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWeaver is referring to Cameron\u2019s 1989 thriller starring Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehn. The film\u2019s production was fraught, to say the least, with the cast and crew\u2019s health and safety constantly in jeopardy. As recounted by SyFy<\/a>: \u201cMary Elizabeth Mastrantonio had a physical and emotional breakdown on set, and Harris admitted he broke into a fit of sobbing while driving home one day because of the stress. At one point, a lightning storm ripped a hole in the black tarp covering the tank, and since repairing it took too much time and production was already running over, they started shooting at night. Too much exposure to chlorine burned divers\u2019 skin and turned their hair white.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe were guinea pigs, in a way,\u201d Harris once told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cJim wasn\u2019t quite sure how this was all gonna go down\u2026 [in the drowning scene I was] screaming at her to come back and wake up, and I was slapping her across the face and I see that they\u2019ve run out of film in the camera \u2014 there\u2019s a light on the camera \u2014 and nobody had said anything. And Mary Elizabeth stood up and said, \u2018We are not animals!\u201d and walked off the set. They were going to let me just keep slapping her\u00a0around!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhatever Cameron was like on past sets did not deter Weaver from reuniting with him on the \u201cAvatar\u201d franchise. She\u2019s starred in all three \u201cAvatar\u201d movies so far. Her co-star Stephen Lang told The Times<\/a> that \u201ca part of Jim that has leavened and lightened much over the years,\u201d adding: \u201cI think he embarked upon a course of self-improvement, and I don\u2019t say that this is actually necessarily a conscious thing that he did; I just think that he\u2019s kind of geared that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMarinating, maybe, is a good term, right?\u201d Cameron himself told the publication. \u201cIt\u2019s not like I was a screamer all day long. But every once in a while. Everybody\u2019s entitled to a bad day. If you\u2019re not doing the job, then get out of my way.\u201d<\/p>\n
