\n\tBono<\/a> revisited a classic holiday song he knows intimately, \u201cChristmas (Baby Please Come Home),\u201d<\/a> with Imelda May<\/a> during Dublin\u2019s annual Christmas Eve charity event, the Busk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tImelda May sang the first verse with some extra Christmas spirit, delivering the \u201cChristmas\u201d refrain at the end before harmonizing again with Bono for the final notes. About midway through the song, \u201cMr. Bono,\u201d as he was introduced, added some words of his own to the song, acknowledging the unity of the event and asking everyone there to lift their hands up in jubilation.<\/p>\n

\n\tDarlene Love first recorded \u201cChristmas (Baby Please Come Home)\u201d in 1963, while U2 covered the track for the 1987 benefit compilation A Very Special Christmas. While performing on the Busk, Bono summoned the same panache he did in \u201987, when he was singing to help raise money for the Special Olympics. Maybe it was the Irish flute that fueled him this time.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlong with Bono and May, the Busk this year featured event organizer, Glen Hansard, as well as the Script\u2019s Danny O\u2019Donoghue, the Riptide Movement, the Coronas\u2019 Danny O\u2019Reilly, and Shosby, according to NME<\/a>. The evening ended with an all-star jam on the Pogues\u2019 \u201cFairytale of New York,\u201d<\/a> which found May wishing a happy birthday to the song\u2019s late songwriter, Shane MacGowan<\/a>, who was born on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe event, which Bono has previously supported<\/a>, has been a Dublin tradition for 15 years. This year, it raised money for the Dublin Simon Community<\/a>, a charity that seeks to help Ireland\u2019s homeless population.<\/p>\n

\n\tDarlene Love recorded \u201cChristmas (Baby Please Come Home)\u201d on a hot August day in 1963 for Phil Spector\u2019s A Christmas Gift for You compilation, which came out in 1963. It became an enduring hit after she sang it on David Letterman\u2019s late-night shows<\/a> for decades.
