Recently, a resident of New South Wales, Australia, returned home from holiday shopping and noticed something different about the Christmas wreath on her front door.<\/p>\n

There, hidden among the holly and pinecones, was a little ball of fuzz.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn closer inspection, the festive surprise turned out to be a little ringtail possum, curled up fast asleep among the greenery,\u201d WIRES Wildlife Rescue<\/a> wrote in a press release.<\/p>\n

In need of expert advice, the resident posted a picture of the possum on a local community page. She soon connected with Inga, a WIRES rescuer, who quickly headed to the scene.<\/p>\n

Inga wasn\u2019t so shocked to see the young possum, whom she named Holly, in such a predicament.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not uncommon for juveniles to go exploring when they first start fending for themselves,\u201d Inga said in the press release. \u201cAs a nocturnal species, I suspect little Holly decided the greenery on the front door was a cosy spot rather than finding her way home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Inga carefully contained the little possum, checked her for injuries and found her to be in good health. Then she released her into the bushland behind the resident\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe quickly scrambled up the paperbark tree, settled into the nearest fork and promptly went back to sleep,\u201d WIRES wrote.<\/p>\n

Watching Holly settle in, Inga felt a sense of pride.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was delighted to be able to release her so she could spend Christmas back where she belongs,\u201d Inga said.<\/p>\n
