Jeremy Renner<\/a> is opening up about that death in the season finale of Mayor of Kingstown<\/a>. <\/p>\n The 54-year-old star and executive producer\u2019s Paramount+<\/a> drama wrapped up it\u2019s fourth season on Sunday (December 28), with the episode, \u201cBelly of the Beast.\u201d <\/p>\n In the ep, \u201cMike fights to prevent Kyle from following in his footsteps and confronts the demons of his past. Hobbs makes a crucial decision.\u201d <\/p>\n Following the episode\u2019s release, Jeremy shared why [spoiler] had to die at the hands of [spoiler]. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/p>\n Spoilers below!<\/p>\n In the episode, Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley<\/a>) kills Merle Callahan (Richard Brake<\/a>), and Jeremy told EW<\/a> that it was important that Kyle be the one to do it and Mike, as it was an act of retribution for killing his wife. <\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s one way to sort of\u2026 not really protect, but help forge a path for healing because of what [Merle] did,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was no other pathway.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe beautiful end of it all is at least they [Mike and Kyle] have each other,\u201d Jeremy added. \u201cThat was something I really had to fight for [at] the end of this show. It was very, very, very important to at least give the audience that. Give them something good.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cThe beautiful part for us is the release of that toxic character and then the two brothers falling into each other \u2014 and at least they have each other through it all. So that\u2019s some kind of hope, right?\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n
