While reflecting on her breakout role, Kate Winslet<\/a> revealed a new detail about her private life. The Oscar-winning actress is currently on a promotional tour for her Christmas family drama, \u201cGoodbye June.\u201d During one interview, she shared her intimate experiences as a teenager.<\/p>\n

Kate Winslet kissed a few girls and boys as a teen<\/p>\n

Kate Winslet first gained recognition for her role in the 1994 drama \u201cHeavenly Creatures.\u201d Directed by Peter Jackson, the film followed Winslet and her co-star, Melanie Lynskey, as two teenage girls in an obsessive friendship. During her appearance on the\u00a0\u201cTeam Deakins\u201d\u00a0podcast<\/a> on December 24, the 50-year-old actress shared how her own experiences as a teen helped shape her on-screen character.<\/p>\n

Winslet said, \u201cI\u2019ll share something I\u2019ve never shared before. Some of my first intimate experiences as a young teen were actually with girls. I\u2019d kissed a few girls, and I\u2019d kissed a few boys, but I wasn\u2019t particularly evolved in either direction. At that stage in my life, I certainly was curious, and I think there was something about the really intense connection that those two women had that I profoundly understood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash\u201d star added that she was immediately drawn into the world that the characters lived in. She explained how that world ultimately became deeply \u201cdamaging\u201d for both of them and exposed their profound \u201cinsecurities and vulnerabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHeavenly Creatures,\u201d based on the infamous Parker-Hulme murder case, was the feature film debut for both Winslet and Lynskey. Upon its debut at the Venice Film Festival, it won the Silver Lion. It was one of the most well-received movies of the year and even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1995.<\/p>\n

Kate Winslet then starred in period dramas like \u201cSense and Sensibility,\u201d \u201cJude,\u201d and \u201cHamlet.\u201d She rose to international recognition in 1997 after starring as Rose DeWitt Bukater opposite Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s Jack in James Cameron\u2019s epic historical romance, \u201cTitanic.\u201d<\/p>\n
