A serving PSNI officer has appeared in court charged with the theft of thousands of rounds of ammunition from a police training centre.<\/p>\n
Robert Charles Rodgers (63), whose address was given as PSNI headquarters in Belfast, is also charged with possession of a firearm under suspicious circumstances.<\/p>\n
Appearing at Antrim Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ballymena, he spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.<\/p>\n
He faces a total of eight charges, including theft, possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of an explosive substance, gun powder, in October.<\/p>\n
The officer, who has been suspended pending the outcome of criminal proceedings, is also charged with fraud.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s alleged that he made a security card to gain access to a PSNI armoury with the intention to make gain for himself or to cause loss to the PSNI.<\/p>\n
The offences are alleged to have taken place at the PSNI firearms training centre at Steeple in Antrim.<\/p>\n
A PSNI detective constable told the court he could connect the defendant to the charges.<\/p>\n
