A young garda <\/a>has been arrested \u2013 after he was accused of serious sexual assault as a teenager.<\/p>\n The Irish Mirror has also learned that the officer<\/a> has now been suspended as part of the probe, which stretches back almost a decade.<\/p>\n We have confirmed that the officer, who is based in the Dublin region, was suspended following his arrest at the start of December.<\/p>\n The officer has fewer than five years\u2019 service. Sources have told us the alleged serious sexual assault happened almost 10 years before he joined the Garda<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThis relates to an incident when both he and the injured party were juveniles,\u201d a source told us.<\/p>\n Sources told us the complainant came forward to officers in the last 12 months \u2013 and that was only when they learned that the suspect had joined the force.<\/p>\n A complaint was made to a Garda Divisional Protective Services Unit<\/a> in the Eastern Region \u2013 which is outside the area where the Dublin-based officer is stationed.<\/p>\n The Irish Mirror’s Crime Writers Michael O’Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up<\/a> and get it delivered to your inbox every week<\/p>\n That unit carried out an investigation into the complainant\u2019s allegation – and arrested the officer in early December.<\/p>\n He was questioned in a Garda <\/a>station in south Dublin for several hours, before being released without charge.<\/p>\n That investigation is ongoing \u2013 but the officer was then suspended.<\/p>\n Sources say it is likely to be several months before the officer learns if he is to be charged \u2013 or has his suspension lifted.<\/p>\n Gardai<\/a> confirmed to us that a member of the force has been suspended as part of an investigation.<\/p>\n The force said in a statement: \u201cA male was arrested in the Dublin Region in early December in connection with an alleged assault investigation being carried out by Garda\u00ed <\/a>in the Garda Eastern Region.<\/p>\n \u201cA member of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na in the Garda Dublin Region has been suspended in connection with this investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_OTOOLE-HEALY.jpg\")
