Pre-tax losses at one of the most exclusive hotels in the country, Ballyfin Demesne in Co Laois, increased more than fourfold to \u20ac389,281 in 2024. <\/p>\n

Recently filed accounts show \u00adBallyfin Demesne Ltd recorded the sharp \u00adincrease in pre-tax losses as revenues decreased by 3.5pc from \u20ac6.85m to \u20ac6.61m. The pre-tax loss for 2024 takes account of non-cash depreciation costs of \u20ac617,020.<\/p>\n

The 21-bedroom Co Laois hotel has hosted George and Amal Clooney in the past, while Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spent time there during their 2014 honeymoon to Ireland. Last year, Ballyfin retained its prestigious \u2018three key\u2019 ranking in Michelin\u2019s 2025 Key Hotels. The three key status is awarded for \u201can extraordinary stay\u201d where such a \u00adhotel could be \u201ca destination for the trip of a lifetime\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ballyfin enjoyed a further boost last year when it secured a much sought-\u00adafter Michelin star for its State Dining Room restaurant.<\/p>\n

Those seeking to dine there and enjoy the food served by executive head chef Richard Picard-Edwards can pay \u20ac125 per person for the a la carte menu and \u20ac165 per person for the tasting menu.<\/p>\n

The 2024 accounts show Ballyfin\u2019s accommodation income declined from \u20ac4.29m to \u20ac4.01m, while \u201cfood and beverage\u201d income increased marginally from \u20ac1.93m to \u20ac1.95m. \u201cOther\u201d income increased from \u20ac627,671 to \u20ac646,889.<\/p>\n

Numbers employed by the business increased from 93 to 96 as staff costs rose from \u20ac3.2m to \u20ac3.34m. Pay to key management personnel reduced from \u20ac367,825 to \u20ac350,113 in 2024.<\/p>\n

At the end of December 2024, the firm had shareholder funds of \u20ac22.84m.<\/p>\n

This was made up of called-up share capital of \u20ac53.76m, other reserves of \u20ac6.7m offset by accumulated losses of \u20ac37.62m.<\/p>\n

The property was purchased at auction by the Chicago-based \u00adKrehbiel family and they have invested millions of euro into the refurbishment of the estate since acquiring the property in 2002.<\/p>\n

In a recent Labour Court decision, it dismissed former food and beverage assistant Jack Cuddy\u2019s case for constructive dismissal against the Ballyfin hotel firm.<\/p>\n

Deputy chairperson at the Labour Court Katie Connolly found that Ballyfin Demesne Ltd did not repudiate Mr Cuddy\u2019s contract of employment or behave in such an unreasonable manner as to warrant Mr Cuddy\u2019s resignation in April 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ballyfin is considered a ‘dream destination’ Ballyfin Demesne has played host to a number of high-profile celebrities.
