President Donald Trump<\/a> has furiously bashed actor George Clooney<\/a> over his decision to become a French citizen\u2014while also criticizing the European country’s “horrendous handling of immigration.”<\/p>\n

Trump, 79, took to his social media platform Truth Social<\/a> to address the news that Clooney, 64, and his wife, Amal Clooney<\/a>, 47, had been granted citizenship by the French government, along with their 8-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.<\/p>\n

The president mockingly celebrated the couple’s relocation from the U.S., before going on to slam George as an “average guy” who starred in a series of “mediocre movies.”<\/p>\n

“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration much like we had under Sleepy\u00a0Joe Biden,” he said, referring to his presidential predecessor.<\/p>\n

Trump went on to hit out at George’s decision to withdraw his support for President Biden’s reelection campaign, before taking aim at some of his other most outspoken detractors, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, Tim Walz.<\/p>\n

“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat.<\/p>\n

“Clooney got more publicity for\u00a0politics\u00a0than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn\u2019t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”<\/p>\n

The actor\u2014who has been outspoken in his criticism of Trump\u2014was quick to hit back at the president, issuing a statement to the Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in which he turned the political leader’s motto back against him.<\/p>\n

“I totally agree with the current president,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to make America great again. We\u2019ll start in November.”<\/p>\n

The public spat between the two men was sparked mere hours after it was revealed that George and his family had taken up French citizenship\u2014although they will still be able to retain their U.S. passports as per local law in their new home nation.<\/p>\n

George’s naturalization was revealed over the weekend in the Journal Officiel, a publication in which French government decrees are officially shared.<\/p>\n

The “Ocean’s Eleven” star announced in October that he and his family had permanently relocated to their home in Brignoles, France, telling Esquire<\/a> that he hoped the move would allow his children to grow up with a more normal life than they might have enjoyed in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live on a farm in\u00a0France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for [the twins], it\u2019s like, they\u2019re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in,” George, who spoke to the outlet from his villa on Lake Como in Italy, explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a much better life. I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.”<\/p>\n

He went on to voice his concerns about how his profile in Hollywood\u2014and the resulting spotlight this has shone on his kids\u2014might have negatively affected the twins, noting that he wanted them to be able to enjoy a carefree lifestyle away from photographers and industry stereotypes.<\/p>\n

“France\u2014they kind of don\u2019t give a s–t about fame. I don\u2019t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don\u2019t want them being compared to somebody else\u2019s famous kids,” he added.<\/p>\n

George noted that he’s very thankful there is a large age gap between him and his children because they won’t have to deal with people comparing their successes to his own career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only thing I feel lucky about is that I\u2019m so much older, that the idea that my son would be compared to me is pretty unlikely, because by the time he actually will have done anything, I\u2019m gonna be gumming my bread,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also noted that it is crucial to him for his kids to be self-sufficient, adding that he often suggests they watch him fixing things around the house, such as the swimming pool cover or their coffee machine.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to me that they can survive,\u201d the actor added.<\/p>\n

George did not reveal when he and Amal decided to relocate to France full time. However, the couple are understood to have purchased a sprawling estate in the European country for $8.3 million in 2021.<\/p>\n

The on-screen star doubled down on his praise of the country in an interview with local radio network RTL in December, when he revealed how much more privacy he and his family have been able to enjoy since moving.<\/p>\n

“Here, they don\u2019t take photos of kids. There aren\u2019t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That\u2019s No. 1 for us,” he said.<\/p>\n

George added that the family\u00a0does\u00a0still own a property in the U.S.\u2014as well as his sprawling Lake Como estate\u2014but that the French abode was their “happiest” place.<\/p>\n

“We also have a house in the United \u200bStates, but our happiest place is \u200bon this farm where the kids can \u200bhave fun,” he shared.<\/p>\n
