Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United head coach.<\/p>\n
Amorim was in charge of the club for 14 months but leaves following a breakdown in relations within their football department.<\/p>\n
They currently sit sixth in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
In a statement, United said: “The club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.<\/p>\n
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”<\/p>\n
Darren Fletcher has been appointed interim boss for Wednesday’s fixture against Burnley.<\/p>\n
Yesterday Amorim stressed he is Manchester United’s manager rather than just the coach during a fiery press conference that saw him raise doubts over his future before telling the scouting network and sporting director “to do their job”.<\/p>\n
Amorim’s comments came at the end of a week when reports emerged that figures behind the scenes had questioned his tactical approach, including head of recruitment Christopher Vivell.<\/p>\n
It was also said that his dialogue with director of football Jason Wilcox had become more fraught of late.<\/p>\n
The 40-year-old had alluded to frustration behind the scenes in the build-up to the Leeds United match as the United boss refused to clarify his recent comments about the club’s transfer plans.<\/p>\n
He had looked downbeat when he sidestepped those questions but was more forthcoming when asked on Sunday if he still felt he had confidence from the board.<\/p>\n
“Guys, to start with that \u2013 and I noticed that you receive selective information about everything \u2013 I came here to be the manager of the Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United,” Amorim said.<\/p>\n
“And that is clear.<\/p>\n
“I know that my name is not (Thomas) Tuchel, it\u2019s not (Antonio) Conte, it\u2019s not (Jose) Mourinho but I\u2019m the manager of Manchester United.<\/p>\n
“And it\u2019s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change, so that was my point.<\/p>\n
“I want to finish with that. I\u2019m not going to quit.
