Coldplay stopped their concert at London\u2019s Wembley Stadium to ask fans to \u201csend love\u201d to Charlie Kirk<\/a>\u2019s family \u2013 and some fans aren\u2019t best pleased about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n The moment took place on Friday (12 September), when frontman Chris Martin halted the show before their performance of the song \u2018Fix You\u2019 to encourage fans to raise their hands and \u201csend love anywhere you wanna send it in the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThere are so many places that might need it today,\u201d said Martin. \u201cYou can send this to your brother or your sister, you can send it to the families of people who have been going through terrible stuff, you can send it to Charlie Kirk\u2019s family. You can send it to anybody\u2019s family. You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway\u2026 You can send it to peaceful people in the Middle East, in Ukraine and Russia.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Check out the moment below:<\/p>\n While many applauded this call for unity, many did not see this moment in a positive light, with some calling out the band. \u00a0<\/p>\n The discussion also spread to\u00a0Reddit<\/a>, where fans\u00a0questioned whether\u00a0the tribute was appropriate. One user wrote: \u201cThey just lost a lifelong Coldplay fan,\u201d while another simply wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s okay Coldplay fans are usually disappointed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Neither Coldplay nor Martin have publicly responded to the backlash.<\/p>\n It\u2019s worth noting that Kirk was apparently not a fan of Coldplay, which he revealed\u00a0in a video<\/a>\u00a0where he was discussing the viral Coldplay kiss cam footage from July<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n In Kirk\u2019s clip about the viral episode, he said: \u201cI would rather be caught dead than be at a Coldplay concert. I would rather go to a WNBA [Women\u2019s National Basketball Association] game than go to a Coldplay concert. I couldn\u2019t think of something more boring and banal and a waste of time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The right-wing activist and staunch Donald Trump supporter was fatally shot<\/a> at Utah Valley University campus last Wednesday. Kirk was 31 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n A 22-year-old Utah native identified as Tyler Robinson has since been arrested<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n While many on both sides of the aisle have condemned the act of political violence, Kirk\u2019s death has divided opinions online, showing to what extent the US feels irrevocably divided<\/a>. Many have called attention to Kirk\u2019s divisive public stances, which he advocated through his student organization Turning Point USA. His political stances included hard-right views on immigration, gun control and the transgender community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
