Coronation Street viewers were heartbroken as they watched Billy Mayhew die in a tragic Corriedale episode. An iconic moment in TV history graced our screens this evening. A jam-packed crossover episode saw the worlds of Coronation Street<\/a> and Emmerdale<\/a> intertwine for the first time.<\/p>\n Fans were delighted to see their favourite Weatherfield characters come face to face with their Yorkshire-based counterparts,<\/a> although in heartbreaking circumstances.<\/p>\n The characters were caught up in the aftermath of Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding which soon turned into a tragic night as the sun set. A drunken Carl drove Debbie recklessly down the country lanes, <\/a>while Kit raced into the night after Becky, with Carla in the passenger seat.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Billy transported the remaining passengers back to Weatherfield. But things soon turned fatal when all of the vehicles ended up in a crash, meeting the Emmerdale residents who were also on their separate travels.<\/p>\n Emotional scenes saw the characters try to escape the overturned minibus. But it was too late for Billy, as the bus exploded before he was able to get out.<\/p>\n Many viewers were brought to tears as they were forced to say an emotional goodbye to the Weatherfield vicar after 11 years on our screens, as he said the Lord’s Prayer to himself.<\/p>\n Taking to social media during the episode, one fan said: “RIP Billy” while a second said: “Sobbing! BILLY!!!!!!”<\/p>\n A third wrote: “Omg Billy is gone” and a fourth said: “Noooooo Billy.”<\/p>\n The 46-year-old actor first appeared on-screen as Billy, who was the new partner of Sean Tully, before dating Todd Grimshaw and then Paul Foreman.<\/a> The Weatherfield vicar soon became a fan-favourite and has been at the heart of some of the show’s major storylines<\/a><\/p>\n
