Television

Netflix is continuing its massive licensing spree from Warner Bros. Discovery. We have learned that the hit sitcom 2 Broke Girls is the next major comedy to have now touched down on Netflix in multiple international territories, including the United Kingdom and Australia.

This move follows a year of heavy collaboration between Netflix and Warner Bros., which has already seen shows like Young Sheldon, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory perform exceptionally well on the platform. Now, the streamer has picked up the non-exclusive rights to the Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs comedy, but as we noted above, only in select regions.

Netflix has picked up the license for a single year, we’re told, meaning it’ll leave in January 2027. Of course, in the long term, the series could become a permanent fixture of Netflix’s library given the Warner Bros. acquisition.

While we are still waiting for a complete list, we have confirmed the show has been added to libraries in:

United Kingdom
Australia
Germany
France
Switzerland

Notably, this deal does not currently apply to Netflix US, where the series is still available on other platforms. Canada was also notably not part of this addition, and, based on our research, the series doesn’t have a confirmed release in these territories. The series is streaming in the US on The Roku Channel, according to JustWatch, and left Prime Video in the 2020s. The series remains on Prime Video in Canada for the time being.

What is 2 Broke Girls about?

Aired on CBS from 2011 to 2017, the multi-camera comedy was created by Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and Whitney Cummings. It tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two waitresses working at a greasy spoon diner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Max Black (Kat Dennings) is street-smart, cynical, and poor from birth. Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs) is a former high-society trust fund princess who lost everything when her father was arrested for a massive Ponzi scheme. Despite their differences, the two become roommates and partners, saving their tips in hopes of launching their own cupcake business.

The official synopsis reads:

“Street-smart Max and rich-girl-turned-waitress Caroline strike up an unlikely friendship. Working together at a Brooklyn diner, they try to save $250,000 to start their own cupcake business, but getting there won’t be easy.”

Who is in the cast?

Alongside the dynamic duo of Dennings and Behrs, the show features a memorable supporting cast of diner regulars:

Garrett Morris as Earl, the cool, elderly cashier.
Jonathan Kite as Oleg, the overly flirtatious Ukrainian cook.
Matthew Moy as Han Lee, the diner’s eager-to-please owner.
Jennifer Coolidge as Sophie Kachinsky, the boisterous Polish neighbor upstairs (who joins the main cast in later seasons).

Will you be checking into the Williamsburg Diner on February 1st?
