The rumours and leaks surrounding Samsung\u2019s next big Unpacked event are hotting up, with the latest whispers<\/a> pointing to a February launch of the Galaxy S26 series. Tipped to be revealed are the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus and S26 Ultra, in what could be interactive updates to the S25 line up from 2025.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because Samsung<\/a> has played it relatively safe in recent years, and the Android<\/a> competition has caught up considerably, surpassing the Galaxy range in some areas. The OnePlus 15<\/a> has a stupendous three-day battery life, while Oppo and Xiaomi have, in this reviewer\u2019s opinion, superior cameras to the Galaxy S25 Ultra<\/a> in the Find X9 Pro<\/a> and 15 Ultra<\/a> respectively.<\/p>\n

One area Samsung tends to excel in though is clever software and customisations, and according to a new report, a clever trick up the S26 Ultra\u2019s sleeve could see you ditch the need for a screen protector.<\/p>\n

According to SamMobile<\/a>, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to come with \u201can innovative, AI-powered feature\u201d that will act like the popular privacy screen protectors on the market by making your screen less visible when viewed at an angle.<\/p>\n

Though screen protectors are primarily to pick up scratches and cracks instead of your precious phone\u2019s glass display, protectors that turn black to the eye unless you view them head-on are quite popular as they stop people snooping on what you\u2019re doing on your phone when in a public place.<\/p>\n

As spotted in the firmware for One UI 8.5, the upcoming new version of Samsung\u2019s Android software that is currently in beta, there will be a new Privacy Display feature that can be turned on in the Settings app or toggled on and off in Samsung\u2019s Quick Panel.<\/p>\n

I hope this feature makes it to all models of the S26, not just the Ultra. It could hopefully also be brought to older Samsung phones to add a handy privacy tool to Galaxy devices without the need for a screen protector.<\/p>\n

Of course, you may still want a screen protector to keep your phone looking pristine. Smartphone manufacturers have not yet found a way to prevent scratches and cracks on fragile glass screens, even if the S25 Ultra had very hardy and top of the line Gorilla Glass Armor 2. Samsung is leading the way with useful screen tech though, such as the excellent anti-reflective coating found on the S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra that reduces glare considerably.<\/p>\n

It seems as though Samsung is now turning to software smarts to improve the screen functionality of the next batch of Galaxy S26 phones.
