{"id":231417,"date":"2026-01-07T01:22:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T01:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/231417\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T01:22:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T01:22:10","slug":"county-council-announces-tree-planting-initiative-for-cork-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/231417\/","title":{"rendered":"County council announces tree planting initiative for Cork schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">Cork County Council has announced a new tree planting initiative with schools in North Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The project, which is being launched in partnership with nature conservation organisation, Biodiversity in Schools, will see native trees and hedgerows planted on school grounds, helping to increase biodiversity while also engaging students in positive, hands-on climate action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The initiative is being introduced at schools in Macroom, which is the county\u2019s first decarbonising zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The Mayor of the County of Cork, councillor Mary Linehan Foley said this partnership is \u201ca wonderful example of how climate action can be delivered at a local level while engaging and educating our young people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cTree-planting projects like this benefit biodiversity in the long term and improve school environments,\u201d Ms Linehan Foley said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Biodiversity in Schools aims to work with children of all ages throughout Ireland to increase positive engagement with nature via educational projects, competitions and direct action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Cork County Council has announced a new tree planting initiative with schools in North Cork.
