Sebastian Stan<\/a> is eyeing his next move, and it seems like he’ll be switching comic book universes for it.<\/p>\n

Marvel’s beloved Winter Soldier is reportedly in talks to jump to the\u00a0DC Universe<\/a>\u00a0for a role in director\u00a0Matt Reeves<\/a>‘\u00a0The Batman Part II<\/a>. The Romanian-American actor would star opposite franchise lead\u00a0Robert Pattinson<\/a>, who assumed the role of the Caped Crusader in 2022’s\u00a0The Batman. The new film is scheduled to begin shooting in the spring.<\/p>\n

Stan has played the MCU<\/a>‘s Bucky Barnes in several feature films, beginning with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and, most recently, in last year’s Thunderbolts*<\/a>. He also appeared alongside Anthony Mackie<\/a>, who plays Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, on the Marvel TV series The Falcon and the Winter\u00a0Soldier<\/a>. The actor will next don his character’s vibranium arm in the highly anticipated ensemble film Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>, set for release on Dec. 18.<\/p>\n

Although Doomsday will serve as a direct lead to Avengers: Secret Wars, it is unknown if the same cast members<\/a> will appear in the latter film when it premieres Dec. 17, 2027.<\/p>\n

Should Stan make the leap to the DC Universe, he wouldn’t be the first Marvel star to make the move for Reeves’ sequel.<\/p>\n

Early last month, Scarlett Johansson<\/a>, who played Natasha Romanoff in several MCU films, made headlines for also being in talks to join <\/a>The Batman II<\/a>. The actress originated the role in 2010’s Iron Man 2, joining the team for\u00a02012’s\u00a0The Avengers,\u00a0and starring as the titular star of 2021’s\u00a0Black Widow.<\/p>\n

She’s been clear that she won’t be returning to the role, however, after the character died heroically in 2019’s\u00a0Avengers: Endgame. (It’s a complex timeline.) “Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. Okay?”\u00a0Johansson said in March<\/a>. “[Fans] just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!'”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Jojo Rabbit\u00a0star has, however, said she would return to the\u00a0MCU\u00a0behind the camera.<\/p>\n

Entertainment Weekly\u00a0has reached out to DC, Warner Bros., and Stan. Deadline was the first to report Stan’s casting.<\/p>\n

Reeves, who is directing the sequel, confirmed in June that he had handed in the finished script<\/a>, co-written by Mattson Tomlin. The film is scheduled to begin filming in spring 2026, David Zaslav, head of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed in an August earnings call with investors.<\/p>\n

DC Studios co-heads James Gunn<\/a> and Peter Safran are producing, as well as Dylan Clark. Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright<\/a>, and Andy Serkis<\/a> will return as Bruce Wayne, Jim Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively.<\/p>\n

The first film, released in March 2022, grossed $772.3 million worldwide, successfully launching Reeves’ own mini-cinematic Bat-verse of interconnected movies and shows that also includes the critically acclaimed HBO series The Penguin.<\/p>\n

Colin Farrell<\/a>\u00a0reprised his role as Oz Cobb on HBO’s\u00a0The Penguin, which\u00a0ties into the events of\u00a0The Batman Part II<\/a>. “We are the bridge between the two films,” showrunner Lauren LeFranc previously told EW. “We’re going almost directly into the second film Matt has planned.”<\/p>\n

The season finale cliffhanger, in particular, revealed the Bat Signal lighting up the darkened sky. “We’re kind of flicking you at the end to say the story’s not over,”\u00a0Reeves said<\/a>. “The idea that Oz and these characters could be on a collision course at some point with Batman, that’s of course out there. So we wanted to leave you with a sense of that, without overshadowing that this is really the completion of the story.”<\/p>\n

The Batman Part II\u00a0is scheduled for release on Oct. 1, 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n
