<\/p>\nDawn French’s new Somerset-based sitcom is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer. It comes ahead of Can You Keep a Secret?’s premiere on BBC One this evening.<\/p>\n
The series focuses on matriarch Debbie Fendon (played by French), who concocts a fraudulent scheme to steal life insurance when her very much alive husband (Friday Night Dinner’s Mark Heap) is mistakenly declared dead.<\/p>\n
It all proves overwhelming for their son Harry (Submarine’s Craig Roberts), who is torn between a potentially life-changing amount of money and doing the right thing.<\/p>\n
However, his wife Neha (Doctor Who’s Mandip Gill) happens to be a police officer, meaning their plan risks gravely falling apart.<\/p>\n
Fans wanting to catch all six episodes can now do so on iPlayer \u2013 though if you fancy watching it via broadcast, Can You Keep a Secret? airs on BBC One at 9.30pm this evening too.<\/p>\n

Related: Best streaming services<\/a><\/p>\n The Guardian<\/a> said viewers can expect “kooky hijinks and stupidly hilarious one-liners”, calling the series “super-funny”.<\/p>\n The show comes from This Country’s Simon Mayhew-Archer, and has a familial link with French as his father Paul co-wrote The Vicar of Dibley.<\/p>\n Opening up about the series, Simon explained to BBC News<\/a>: “It’s being that sandwich generation, where you’re between incontinent toddlers and incontinent OAPs \u2013 and it’s nappies at both ends.”<\/p>\n BBC<\/p>\n French further revealed that she was attracted to the role as the series is a mix between a sitcom and a thriller, noting: “I think it\u2019s quite hard to pull both those things off. It\u2019s funny, but it\u2019s also about the dynamics of this oddball family that have almost accidentally pulled off a massive crime.”<\/p>\n She added<\/a> of setting it in the West Country: “At the very beginning I said to Simon, \u2018I’ll happily do a sitcom, but we need to set it down here near where I live\u2019, partly because I want to bring more work down to Cornwall, and partly because that puts me close to my family and other logistics.<\/p>\n “Simon completely agreed to this, but of course, Simon\u2019s not in a position to agree!
