About a year ago at CES 2025, I met with former Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky to get a sneak peek at a new product he was working on: a smart ring designed specifically for recording notes and reminders at the press of a button. I was immediately intrigued.<\/p>\n
That ring was announced as the Pebble Index 01<\/a> in December, and at CES 2026<\/a> this week, I finally got to try it for myself. It\u2019s unlike any other smart ring I\u2019ve used before, and while it won\u2019t be for everyone, it\u2019s easily one of the best things I\u2019ve found at this year\u2019s CES.<\/p>\n Joe Maring \/ Android Authority<\/p>\n If you aren\u2019t familiar with the Pebble Index 01, the pitch is simple. It\u2019s a smart ring, but it\u2019s not like most other smart rings you\u2019ve probably heard of, such as the Oura Ring and Samsung Galaxy Ring. The Pebble Index 01 doesn\u2019t track your steps, sleep, heart rate, or anything like that.<\/p>\n Instead, the Index has a small button that you press and hold to record voice notes. This could be a reminder to take out the trash later in the day, a note about where you parked in a parking garage, an idea you had for work, or virtually anything else.<\/p>\n The main benefit of the Index is its simplicity and ease-of-use.<\/p>\n Any piece of information you want to remember for later, you press the Index\u2019s button, let it know what you\u2019re thinking, and that\u2019s all there is to it. A history of all your recordings is saved in the rePebble app, and the Index can automatically add items to your phone\u2019s calendar and to-do list app. Even better, there\u2019s no monthly subscription.<\/p>\n If this sounds simple, that\u2019s because it is. And if you want to argue that you can set reminders already on your smartphone or smartwatch, that\u2019s true, too. However, the main benefit of the Index is its simplicity and ease-of-use. You may not always have your phone or smartwatch on you to set a reminder or jot down a note. And even if you do, there\u2019s still a process of grabbing your phone, unlocking it, and opening an app to create that note\/reminder \u2014 or doing the same on your watch.<\/p>\n Joe Maring \/ Android Authority<\/p>\n With the Index, you press the button, say your message, and that\u2019s where your interaction with the ring begins and ends. The ring is always on your finger and always within reach. Equally important, that button feels incredible. It\u2019s so clicky and responsive that I wanted to keep pressing it as a sort of fidget toy. Migicovsky said this was something he and his team had to nail, as the button is your one and only point of interaction with the Index, and they knocked it out of the park.<\/p>\n Joe Maring \/ Android Authority<\/p>\n Migicovsky sees the Pebble Index as something you\u2019ll wear 24\/7, much like an extension of your brain. That requires the ring to be both comfortable and long-lasting, which the Index excels at. I tried wearing the Index on my left and right index fingers, and it fit well on both. The ring is incredibly lightweight and much slimmer than my Oura Ring 4. In fact, it\u2019s really not much bigger than my wedding band,<\/p>\n As for its longevity, the Index is expected to last up to two years with normal usage (using it 10-20 times per day, recording 3-6-second voice notes). The ring isn\u2019t rechargeable, but once the battery dies, you can send it back for recycling and then purchase another Index ring if you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n Joe Maring \/ Android Authority<\/p>\n I know not everyone is thrilled with this business model, but I think it\u2019s fine. One of the main benefits of the Index is that you can wear it all the time, so no matter when an idea strikes you, or you need to remind yourself of something, you\u2019ll always have the ring on your finger to do so \u2014 there\u2019s never any risk of you taking the ring off to put it on a charger and then forgetting about it \u2014 something I do often with my Oura Ring.<\/p>\n The Pebble Index seemed like a great idea when I saw it a year ago, and now that I\u2019ve tried it myself, I\u2019m convinced this is something I want to get on my finger ASAP. I appreciate that won\u2019t be the case for everyone, but for anyone else who regularly sets reminders for themselves, this seems like one of the most useful gadgets for doing so.<\/p>\n You can pre-order the Pebble Index 01 now for $75.
