{"id":233941,"date":"2026-01-08T09:07:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T09:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/233941\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T09:07:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T09:07:07","slug":"hbo-max-has-already-renewed-the-pitt-for-a-third-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/233941\/","title":{"rendered":"HBO Max has already renewed The Pitt for a third season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In one of the least surprising shows of TV network confidence in recent memory, HBO president Casey Bloys announced tonight, at the premiere event for season two of HBO Max critical darling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/the-pitt-premiere-recap\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Pitt<\/a>, that the series was also being renewed for a third installment.<\/p>\n<p>This is not, to put it lightly, much of a shock: The show is less than three days out from winning a Critics Choice Television Award for Best Drama, which will presumably fit in snugly with all the other statuary it\u2019s hauled home since debuting back in January of 2025\u2014including, prominently, Emmy wins for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/noah-wyle-interview-the-pitt-david-crosby-max-season-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Wyle<\/a>, co-star Katherine LaNasa, and for Outstanding Drama Series. The show\u2019s second season, meanwhile, is already an overwhelming critical success, as advance viewers have raved about the series\u2019 ability to raise the stakes in a Pittsburgh emergency room without losing its emotional core. (The A.V. Club\u2018s own weekly episodic coverage of the series will kick off on Thursday, alongside\u00a0The Pitt\u2018s\u00a0second-season premiere.)<\/p>\n<p>In other words, there was really no reason to think Bloys and HBO\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0immediately order another season of the show, which was created and showrun by\u00a0ER\u00a0alum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/the-pitt-season-2-preview-r-scott-gemmill-john-wells-interview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">R. Scott Gemmill<\/a>, working with his old collaborators Wyle and John Wells. Sure, it\u2019s hypothetically possible\u00a0that audiences that turned up in droves to watch the hour-by-hour drama of the show\u2019s first season\u2014which also starred Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez\u2014will suddenly lose interest in the second, at which point Bloys and his team will have to content themselves with\u00a0merely\u00a0having another season of one of TV\u2019s most critically well-rated series on their hands.
