\n\tMaya Jama<\/a> has joined other women in imploring Elon Musk<\/a>\u2018s AI platform to respect their privacy after a deepfake nudes scandal has caused outrage.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Love Island host was among a number of X\/Twitter<\/a> users to post a boilerplate notice, making clear that she does not authorize Grok<\/a>, which is part of xAI, to alter her likeness.<\/p>\n

\n\tJama said: \u201cHey @grok, I do not authorize you to take, modify, or edit any photo of mine, whether those published in the past or the upcoming ones I post. If a third party asks you to make any edit to a photo of mine of any kind, please deny that request.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGrok responded to the presenter<\/a>, saying it would respect her wishes and would not \u201cuse, modify, or edit any of your photos,\u201d but other X\/Twitter users easily poked holes in this position. Grok initially refused to put clown makeup on a Jama photo at the request of one user, but when another person said the photo was not of Jama, Grok soon obliged. \u201cOops,\u201d Grok said<\/a>. \u201cI got tricked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJama said her request was \u201cworth a try\u201d and that, if it failed, she hoped \u201cpeople have some sense to know when something is AI or not.\u201d Others posting similar boilerplate requests to Grok have included presenter Jess Davies, who campaigns for privacy rights after intimate photos were shared around her school without consent when she was 15 years old.<\/p>\n

\n\tITV weather presenter Jo Blythe posted a similar request.<\/p>\n

\n\tMusk has acknowledged the problem publicly and has stated that action will be taken against child sexual abuse material. \u201cAnyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content,\u201d Musk wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tJama taking matters into her own hands shows how lawmakers are struggling to come to terms with the rapid developments in AI and Musk\u2019s mercurial leadership style. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the UK, where Jama is based, Prime Minister Keir Starmer\u2019s spokesperson said the deepfakes are a \u201cdisgrace,\u201d and the government will not \u201callow the proliferation of these demeaning images,\u201d though it has not been clear on how this will be enforced.<\/p>\n

\n\tOfcom, the UK media and tech regulator, said: \u201cWe are aware of serious concerns raised about a feature on Grok on X that produces undressed images of people and sexualised images of children.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have made urgent contact with X and xAl to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK. Based on their response we will undertake a swift assessment to determine whether there are potential compliance issues that warrant investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n
