{"id":234699,"date":"2026-01-08T19:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T19:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/234699\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T19:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T19:04:09","slug":"almost-all-land-for-park-and-rides-across-limerick-are-locked-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/234699\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost all land for park-and-rides across Limerick are locked in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAND has been identified to build three of the four park-and-ride <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/576\/motoring-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">facilities<\/a> the council plans to develop around the city.<\/p>\n<p>Under the transport development strategy for the city and Shannon, it is planned to build areas at four locations where people can leave their vehicles and continue on public transport to the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>These are in Raheen, at the Mackey Roundabout, in Coonagh, along the Ennis Road and in Ballysimon.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/munster-rugby\/1981417\/from-scrum-to-sparkle-second-munster-rugby-star-pops-the-question-during-luxurious-romantic-getaway.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">From scrum to sparkle: Second Munster rugby star pops the question during luxurious romantic getaway<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the metropolitan district meeting, Social Democrats councillor Shane Hickey-O\u2019Mara submitted a question seeking updates on their progress.<\/p>\n<p>In a written answer from transport engineer Hugh McGrath, he was told that three of these had land lined up, with a fourth area close to being finalised.<\/p>\n<p>For Ennis Road, Mr McGrath wrote: \u201cA preferred site has been identified. We are close to finalising necessary land agreements and hope to progress planning for this site in Q1-2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for Mackey Roundabout, a site is identified and potential site layouts have been progressed.<\/p>\n<p>In Raheen, a site is identified and investigations are complete.<\/p>\n<p>The only park-and-ride site where land has not been formally signed off on is at Ballysimon, Mr McGrath wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are close to finalising a site.
