{"id":235980,"date":"2026-01-09T11:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T11:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/235980\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T11:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T11:56:14","slug":"concerns-as-connecticut-us-flu-cases-jump-cbia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/235980\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns as Connecticut, US Flu Cases Jump \u00bb CBIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flu cases are increasing in Connecticut and nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest influenza report, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there was a nearly 33% increase in positive flu cases for the week ending Dec. 27.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors\u2019 visits for flu-related symptoms also rose by 8.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Connecticut is one of 30 states experiencing what the CDC classifies as \u201cvery high\u201d flu activity.<\/p>\n<p>So far this season, the <a href=\"https:\/\/app.powerbigov.us\/view?r=eyJrIjoiMjkxNjk0ZTItOTFkNy00YWZiLTk4ZmYtMTFlN2ZkNmM5OTE0IiwidCI6IjExOGI3Y2ZhLWEzZGQtNDhiOS1iMDI2LTMxZmY2OWJiNzM4YiJ9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Connecticut Department of Public Health<\/a> has reported more than 18,000 influenza cases, 1,471 hospitalizations, and 27 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Workplace Risks<\/p>\n<p>Flu season can significantly impact workplaces, as increased sick days often lead to reduced productivity.<\/p>\n<p>Both employees and employers can take steps to reduce flu risk.<\/p>\n<p>The top recommendation is getting a flu shot.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC says the annual vaccine is the most important step in reducing flu risk.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/prevention\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CDC<\/a>, an annual flu vaccine is \u201cthe first and most important step in reducing your risk of flu and its potentially serious outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/seasonal-flu\/non-healthcare-employers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Occupational Safety and Health Administration<\/a> recommend additional preventive measures, including:<\/p>\n<p>Avoid close contact with people who are sick<\/p>\n<p>If you are sick, limit contact with others as much as possible<\/p>\n<p>Wash your hands frequently with soap and water<\/p>\n<p>Avoid using coworkers\u2019 phones, computers, and other work equipment<\/p>\n<p>Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes<\/p>\n<p>OSHA advises employers to promote vaccination and proper hygiene, maintain a clean workplace, and encourage sick employees to stay home.<\/p>\n<p>Common flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>Some people also may have vomiting and diarrhea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Flu cases are increasing in Connecticut and nationwide.
