New ITV show Winter has received an exciting update. The upcoming crime drama was confirmed last year<\/a>, and features Richard Armitage as the titular “unconventional forensic pathologist” Dr Ethan Winter.<\/p>\n

He is known for his “brilliance, sharp intellect and rule-breaking approach” that “helps the police solve some of the most complex murder cases”.<\/p>\n

Winter often works with “meticulous, no-nonsense detective” DI Lauren Bell (Annabel Scholey), who is equally driven in solving cases.<\/p>\n

“Together they make a formidable team, as Winter\u2019s genius and insight into the victims is invaluable to Bell and her murder squad detectives,” the synopsis adds, with each episode featuring its “own compelling, self-contained crime story, whilst a personal thread for Winter runs throughout the series”.<\/p>\n

It has now been confirmed that the cast have had their first read-through, with the Bristol-set show set to begin filming early next month in the city, as well as in Belgium.<\/p>\n

Winter is based on French series Balthazar, with The Couple Next Door’s David Allison and Ashes to Ashes’ Mark Greig adapting the show.<\/p>\n

Speaking previously about the series, Scholey said: “I am thrilled to be joining ITV and Eagle Eye Drama as part of the Winterteam, and to be working alongside the brilliant Richard Armitage on these fantastic scripts.<\/p>\n

“Our characters’ tempestuous relationship will be a total thrill to explore, and I am excited to step into the wonderfully dry shoes of DI Lauren Bell.”<\/p>\n

Armitage added: “The team behind Winter are second to none and the ambition of David Allison’s scripts is very exciting and will attempt to shake up the genre that we’ve grown to love,” Armitage said.<\/p>\n

“Ethan Winter is a compelling character treading the line between diligent professional and reckless maverick. He has a painful secret and a fatalistic self-destruct button over which his finger constantly hovers. I’m thrilled to be returning to ITV.”<\/p>\n
