Ariana Grande has spoken about her Wicked: For Good co-star Cynthia Erivo not being nominated for an Actor Award (formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards). Ariana is up for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role prize for her role as Glinda, while Cynthia’s lead performance as Elphaba hasn’t been nominated.<\/p>\n

Responding to the snub in an interview with Variety<\/a>, Ariana stated that Cynthia’s performance will be remembered for years and years to come, with or without awards glory.<\/p>\n

“Cynthia’s performance is the most truthful, vulnerable and fierce Elphaba we’ve seen, and it will be referenced and adored for generations,” she said. “That can’t be taken away.”<\/p>\n

She also touched on how Jon M Chu didn’t receive a nomination at the Directors Guild of America Awards, which were announced a few days ago.<\/p>\n

“There aren’t enough flowers on this earth for Jon M Chu,” she said.<\/p>\n

“He’s an extraordinary human being and director. This film will be watched for decades to come. He set out to move people, to challenge them, to make them better allies and better humans \u2013 and he succeeded.<\/p>\n

“The impact of his work and Cynthia\u2019s Elphaba is undeniable. “<\/p>\n

She continued: “That’s why I say every good thing that happens to me belongs to them, too. None of this exists in isolation. We informed each other every single day. Of course, it’s hard \u2014 they deserve all the flowers this world can grow.”<\/p>\n

The Oscars will be announcing its shortlist of nominees on Thursday, 22 January, so we’ll have to see what Wicked: For Good is and isn’t up for then.<\/p>\n

Ariana’s upcoming acting projects include American Horror Story, a Dr Seuss adaptation, and a new entry in the Meet the Fockers series.<\/p>\n

“There is something else I’m very excited about down the line,” she added. “I can’t say much yet, but it’s something that inspires me deeply. It contains multitudes.”<\/p>\n
