{"id":239651,"date":"2026-01-11T15:46:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T15:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/239651\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T15:46:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T15:46:11","slug":"gidey-breaks-irish-10km-road-record-in-valencia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/239651\/","title":{"rendered":"Gidey breaks Irish 10km road record in Valencia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Efrem Gidey broke his own national 10km road race record after clocking a time of 27:39 in Valencia this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Clonliffe Harriers runner came home in 12th spot, beating his Irish record by four seconds, which was set in the same race last year.<\/p>\n<p>His compatriot Jack O&#8217;Leary was only three seconds behind him, finishing in 18th spot. The Mullingar athlete posted a time of 27:42, which was one second faster than Gidey&#8217;s previous Irish record.<\/p>\n<p>Cormac Dalton, also of Mullingar Harriers, finished 39th with a time of 28:04, while Callum Morgan was four seconds further back in 28:08.<\/p>\n<p>The race was won by 10,000m world bronze medallist in Tokyo, Sweden&#8217;s Andreas Almgren, who set a new European record of 26.46.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s race, Limerick&#8217;s Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill&#8217;s was the first Irish woman home, finishing 42nd in a time of 32:24.<\/p>\n<p>19-year old Ava Crean came home in 48th place, taking over a minute off her best time, finishing in 32:46.<\/p>\n<p>The race was won by Scot Eilish McColgan, who regained her European women&#8217;s 10km record in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old clocked 30.08, just seven days after Belgium&#8217;s Jana Van Lent won in Nice in 30:10, some nine seconds quicker than McColgan\u2019s previous best.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Efrem Gidey broke his own national 10km road race record after clocking a time of 27:39 in Valencia&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":239652,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[61,60,112],"class_list":{"0":"post-239651","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-ie","9":"tag-ireland","10":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239651","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=239651"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239651\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/239652"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=239651"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=239651"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=239651"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
