This was helped by an unexpected cliffhanger conclusion that will make the wait for the next episode feel rather long.<\/p>\n<p>*Spoilers follow \u2013 you have been warned*<\/p>\n<p>The closing moments of the episode featured the shock return of presumed-dead arms dealer Richard Roper, the villain played by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/hugh-laurie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hugh Laurie<\/a> in the first series. <\/p>\n<p>In episode one, it\u2019s claimed that Roper was killed, with intelligence officer Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), confirming the identity of his corpse in a flashback scene set six years before the new series.<\/p>\n<p>However, in episode three, when Hiddleston\u2019s protagonist Jonathan Pine stealthily follows Roper\u2019s criminal son Teddy (Diego Calva) to a hidden location, he discovers that, rather than Teddy carrying out Roper\u2019s legacy alone, he is doing it alongside his father, who is alive and living with the name Gilberto Hanson. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe end of episode 3 of The Night Manager?!???!? WHAT THE F***?!??? HOW?!!????\u201d one fan asked, with another writing on X\/Twitter: \u201cOh my gosh, who has just watched episode three of series two? It was epic and utterly brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others called the ending \u201cmad\u201d and \u201cshocking\u201d, with an additional viewer stating: \u201cWhat a brilliant twisty ending to episode three. I think if I\u2019d been more mature, I could have dealt with it better. Hugh is a lovely man, very passionate.
