{"id":240914,"date":"2026-01-12T11:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/240914\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T11:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:06:08","slug":"irelands-premier-welcomes-resumption-of-irish-beef-exports-to-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/240914\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland\u2019s premier welcomes resumption of Irish beef exports to China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The resumption of Irish beef exports to China will be \u201cimportant and positive\u201d for trade, Ireland\u2019s premier has said.<\/p>\n<p>Micheal Martin said it reflected the confidence in the \u201crobustness\u201d of Ireland\u2019s food safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>The Taoiseach had visited China last week and pressed for the Chinese market to be reopened for Irish beef products.<\/p>\n<p>He also met with China\u2019s President Xi Jinping and Zhao Leji, chairman of China\u2019s National People\u2019s Congress.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768213505475_1.jpg--.jpg\" width=\"640\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe confirmation today that the Chinese market will reopen for Irish beef is a very important and positive development in our bilateral agri-food trade with China,\u201d Mr Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision, which directly follows my positive engagements in Beijing with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang in recent days, reflects the confidence of the Chinese authorities in the robustness, transparency, and effectiveness of Ireland\u2019s animal health, traceability, and food safety systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reflects a culmination of intensive political, diplomatic and official engagement since the market was temporarily suspended in September 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI look forward to the resumption of beef exports to China and to the continued constructive co-operation with the Chinese authorities to further strengthen agri-food trade between Ireland and China in a mutually beneficial manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture minister Martin Heydon said Ireland\u2019s beef production involved \u201ccomprehensive surveillance, strict regulatory oversight, and internationally recognised standards\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reopening of the Chinese market further underlines the strength of these systems and Ireland\u2019s long-standing commitment to safe, sustainable, and high-quality agri-food production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank the Chinese officials who engage positively on an ongoing basis with our Beijing embassy and with my department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the recent agri-food trade mission to China, in October, my colleague Minister of State Timmy Dooley had the opportunity to highlight the importance of the market re-opening with ministerial counterparts in the GACC (General Administration of Customs of China) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
