{"id":241002,"date":"2026-01-12T12:29:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T12:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/241002\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T12:29:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T12:29:07","slug":"cafe-faces-backlash-over-ai-image-of-late-tv-host","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/241002\/","title":{"rendered":"Caf\u00e9 faces backlash over AI image of late TV host"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A caf\u00e9 in Messini, Peloponnese, is facing criticism for using an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated image of the late television host Giorgos Papadakis in an advertisement, showing him enjoying coffee \u201cfrom the gates of heaven\u201d just days after his death.<\/p>\n<p>Papadakis, one of Greece\u2019s most familiar TV presenters, died earlier this month at age 74 after more than four decades on screen. He hosted the morning news program \u201cKalimera Ellada\u201d (Good Morning, Greece) on Antenna TV from 1992 until his retirement last year.<\/p>\n<p>Morning show host Giorgos Liagas, who worked alongside Papadakis at the same broadcaster, denounced the ad on live television. \u201cI find it unethical, unacceptable, extreme, and perverse,\u201d Liagas said during his program \u201cTo Proino.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s just humor. I put him in heaven, not in hell to suffer\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Speaking live on the same show, caf\u00e9 owner Dionysis Sotiropoulos defended the campaign, calling it both humorous and a tribute. \u201cI am the \u2018moral instigator.\u2019 My mind is neither perverse nor paranoid. We consider him a television father of our generation.
