New infrastructure being rolled out this year also includes a revamp for Tallaght and the first BusConnects corridor<\/p>\n

Below, we\u2019ve compiled a list of some of the infrastructural highlights due this year, from transport measures to the early stages of a major harbour redevelopment.<\/p>\n

More cycle lanes in the transport plan<\/p>\n

The next phase of the council\u2019s wide-ranging transport plan for the city centre is due to come into effect over the course of the year. A major focus will be on cycling infrastructure, with Dublin City Council (DCC) planning to begin construction on 13 new active travel projects by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

These include the final section of the Dodder Greenway from Milltown Road to Dundrum Road, on which works will begin in the summer, along with the North Circular Road scheme between Dorset Street Lower and Amiens Street, with work starting on this in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

Two-way cycle lanes will also be provided along Gardiner Street, reducing the lanes available for cars along this key thoroughfare.<\/p>\n

The Ongar to Barnhill Link Road<\/p>\n

Opening in the first quarter of the year, a 1.9km link road between Ongar and Barnhill is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity for Fingal residents.<\/p>\n

Fingal County Council (FCC) has said that the route will link the two local areas together, offering better access to schools, homes, amenities and businesses.<\/p>\n

FCC\u2019s plans will also link the Royal Canal Greenway to the Damastown Clonsilla Cycle Route adding a new route into the Greater Dublin Area cycle network \u2013 it aims to help commuters shift from cars to more sustainable travel by improving its walking and cycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The link road will include a new bridge over the Clonsilla M3 Parkway, 1km of dual carriageway road, a single carriageway and two new crossroads with traffic lights and roundabouts.<\/p>\n

News in 90 Seconds – January 12 2026<\/p>\n

BusConnects corridors begin construction<\/p>\n

The first BusConnects corridor, from the city centre to Liffey Valley, is due to begin construction shortly, after the contract was awarded to GMC Group in July.<\/p>\n

It will be followed by the Ballymun-Finglas to city centre corridor, for which site investigations began last month. It is expected to go to construction later this year.<\/p>\n

A revamped harbour in D\u00fan Laoghaire<\/p>\n

D\u00fan Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) will move ahead with its plans to revitalise the pier in D\u00fan Laoghaire as a \u201cliving harbour\u201d, which will bring changes in the waterfront including parks, better connectivity and housing \u2013 while promoting tourism and the cruising season.<\/p>\n

After the draft harbour master plan received more than 600 submissions last year, the final plan is expected to be out this month. Major plans that are expected to move forward this year include the Metals Green development, which will develop an unused green space between the east and west piers into a large public park.<\/p>\n

Innovation hub in Tallaght<\/p>\n

South Dublin County Council\u2019s (SDCC) plans to regenerate Tallaght and Clondalkin will progress this year.<\/p>\n

The council aims to build Tallaght into a high-density \u201cinnovation hub\u201d with a new centre at Tallaght University Hospital, increased seating in Tallaght Stadium and 5,000 new homes.<\/p>\n

It will also improve connectivity between Tallaght and Clondalkin with a cycle scheme linking Belgard Road and Airton Road. In Clondalkin, SDCC plans to revitalise the village centre and improve its streets for pedestrians.<\/p>\n
