A new watch name has appeared in the latest version of the Zepp Health app. Strings referencing the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 are present in version 9.16.2, but absent from earlier builds, suggesting a follow-up to last year\u2019s premium outdoor model could be in the works.<\/p>\n

References to T-Rex Ultra 2 show up in app code<\/p>\n

We dug into the APKM for Zepp 9.16.2 and spotted a few references to\u00a0T-Rex Ultra 2\u00a0inside\u00a0the code. The exact string \u201cAmazfit T-Rex Ultra 2\u201d now lives in the string pool section, where model identifiers are typically declared for pairing and UI purposes.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t just a label fragment. The full name appears cleanly and is repeated across several assets. A regex pattern match (T-Rex Ultra 2-\\w{4}) in the DEX file hints at serial variants or internal model suffixes, similar to those used in previous releases.<\/p>\n

All of this is new in version 9.16.2. None of these strings are present in 9.15.2, which strongly suggests they were introduced intentionally.<\/p>\n

\"Amazfit Original Ultra model launched in 2023<\/p>\n

The first Amazfit T-Rex Ultra landed in March 2023<\/a>, positioned as a flagship rugged watch in the T-Rex line. It wasn\u2019t a full generation leap, more than an interim improvement over the T-Rex 2 at the time.<\/p>\n

A few things set it apart such as a stainless steel bezel and backplate, giving it a more rugged feel than the plastic shell of the T-Rex 2. It also added Wi-Fi, which means you can download maps and music straight to the watch instead of going through your phone.<\/p>\n

Beyond that the device launched with some other extras such as diving features, a few more sports modes and a more up to date version of the operating system. Battery life and sensors stayed the same.<\/p>\n

If the Ultra 2 is coming, it will need to offer solid improvements on the T-Rex 3 line. We might see improvements in battery life, more advanced sensors, better durability and build. That\u2019s speculation for now, but the inclusion of Ultra 2 references in both app resource and code files is usually a sign something is on the roadmap.<\/p>\n

Could we see it at MWC 2026?<\/p>\n

The timing fits. Zepp Health has used the MWC window before for announcements. A March release would mirror the original Ultra launch schedule. With multiple versions of T-Rex 3 already out and the Balance line handling lifestyle and wellness, there\u2019s room again for a more rugged, high-end model.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be watching closely for certifications, FCC filings or teasers in the coming weeks. But based on the latest Zepp app update, a soonish launch of the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 is looking quite possible. If it launches, no doubt, it will be an excellent alternative to the more expensive Garmin.<\/p>\n
