With 15 seasons under its belt,\u00a0“Supernatural” is full of game-changing episodes<\/a> that helped the show become a success. However, the series’ main stars aren’t afraid to admit there are some stinkers in the vault as well. Despite boasting an interesting premise, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles believe that Season 1’s “Bugs”\u00a0is the show’s worst outing by far, which makes sense since the episode was an actual plague on the actors, who were stung by real bees while filming.<\/p>\n

“Yes, I think it was [the worst episode], because of what we went through and what it ended up being,” Ackles revealed in a 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. “Basically, the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.” Not only that, but the whole ordeal was pointless in the end, as they couldn’t even capture the actors’ legitimate horror on the screen. “We were literally being stung by bees,” Ackles added. “And then they get to post [production], and the bees didn’t show up on camera, so they had to VIXFX the bees.”<\/p>\n

It’s safe to assume that Padalecki and Ackles would be happy if viewers left “Bugs” out of their future “Supernatural” binges. Of course, that’s not the only episode the stars might have you skip. There is also a Season 7\u00a0storyline that the pair don’t have fond memories of either, even placing it on the same level as “Bugs” when it comes to the show’s worst moments.<\/p>\n

Most long-running series experience highs and lows, and many “Supernatural” fans argue that Season 7 is one of the worst installments. This is mainly due to the Leviathans, a race of ancient villains who predate angels, which were quite underwhelming compared to previous big bads. What’s more, their leader, Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart), is the butt of some pretty puerile jokes throughout the entire season. It turns out, the stars feel the same way.<\/p>\n

“I feel like [the worst episode] was one of the Leviathan episodes that got a little too heavy into the Dick Roman of it all,” Padalecki added. “We leaned so hard into all the d**k jokes.” Ackles agreed with his former co-star’s sentiment, adding, “It was a lot.” Here’s hoping the upcoming “Supernatural” reunion on “The Boys”<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which will reunite Ackles, Padalecki, and Misha Collins \u2014 won’t follow suit.<\/p>\n

While “Supernatural” is full of comedic moments, the barrage of jokes about the Leviathan leader downplays the villains as a threat in Season 7. Fortunately, the series quickly bounced back. Now that the show is over, there’s no doubt that the good episodes far outweigh the duds. So, if you want to take a trip down memory lane, there’s no better time to skip “Bugs” and revisit the\u00a0best “Supernatural” episodes from every season<\/a>\u00a0than now.<\/p>\n
