While New Horizons\u2019 next major update, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/809975\/animal-crossing-new-horizons-is-getting-a-big-switch-2-upgrade-in-january\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which brings the life sim game to version 3.0<\/a>, was originally slated to launch on January 15th, it\u2019s now available to download.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">To be clear, this is not the paid Switch 2 upgrade for the game, which adds features like 4K visuals, 12 player online sessions, and mouse controls using the Switch 2\u2019s new Joy-Con controllers. That update is still expected to launch on the 15th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Instead, what launched early is the more robust \u2014 and free \u2014 3.0 update that adds a host of gameplay features across all versions of the game, many of which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games\/845242\/animal-crossing-new-horizons-3-0-update-switch-2-edition-features\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fans have been clamoring for<\/a> since New Horizons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/3\/19\/22339896\/animal-crossing-new-horizons-review-one-year-nintendo-switch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">launched back in 2020<\/a>. That includes quality-of-life tweaks like increased storage, the ability to craft multiple items at once, and an automated service for cleaning up parts of your island.
