\u2018The Liberties is attracting modern creatives to its cool, casual vibe,\u2019 says iconic title\n<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to National Geographic, which this week published a travel story<\/a> on the rapidly evolving neighbourhood. <\/p>\n

“The Liberties was established on a foundation of free spirit and resilience, which is what makes it such an alluring home base for creatives,\u201d it says.<\/p>\n

These range from \u201clocal folk and traditional Irish musicians who play\u2026 at Dudley\u2019s to the Irish print artists displaying their work at Jam Art Factory\u201d. <\/p>\n

Tips range from community-focused foodie stops like The Fumbally and Hen\u2019s Teeth to creative hubs like La Catedral studios, local distilleries and shops such as Hopeless Botanics.<\/p>\n

Mixed-media artist Solus is one of several voices quoted in the feature: \u201cSetting up home here felt like plugging directly into Dublin\u2019s bloodstream,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

It follows the Liberties\u2019 inclusion last September on Time Out\u2019s list of the world\u2019s \u201ccoolest neighbourhoods<\/a>\u201d for 2025. <\/p>\n

The area ranked 23rd on a list topped by Jimbochu in Tokyo, and including places like Avondale in Chicago, London\u2019s Camberwell and Antwerp\u2019s Borgerhout.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt may be one of Dublin\u2019s oldest neighbourhoods, but alongside medieval remnants and terraced houses, the Liberties is home to some of the hottest spots in town,\u201d wrote Nicola Brady, a Dublin-based travel writer who also contributes to the Irish Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always hotly debated, but we\u2019re certain that if you visit any one of these neighbourhoods, you\u2019ll get to experience the real soul of the city,\u201d said Grace Beard, travel editor at Time Out.<\/p>\n

While such exposure can inspire tourism, and development can add investment and energy to a place, there have also been debates about gentrification, affordability and the future of the Liberties\u2019 famously close-knit sense of community and place. <\/p>\n

Phibsboro was included on a previous Time Out list, for example, coinciding with a 14pc rise in property prices<\/a> the following year, according to a Sunday Independent survey.<\/p>\n

National Geographic recommends the Point A, Aloft and Hyatt Centric<\/a> hotels as plays to stay in the Liberties area, and mentions more established attractions like St Patrick\u2019s Cathedral and the Guinness Storehouse too. <\/p>\n
