Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.<\/p>\n
The highly-rated Austrian, who has been tipped to take over at Manchester United as the club’s next permanent boss, guided the Eagles to FA Cup success last season, but had not agreed a contract extension at Selhurst Park.<\/p>\n
Glasner, 51, arrived at Palace in 2024, having won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt.<\/p>\n
“My decision has already been taken months ago,” Glasner told a press conference.<\/p>\n
“I had a meeting (with Steve Parish) in the October international break, we had dinner and a very long talk and I told him I would not sign a new contract for Crystal Palace.”<\/p>\n
The Selhurst Park outfit’s last competitive victory came against League of Ireland side Shelbourne in the Conference League in December.<\/p>\n
Since then, they’ve failed to win any of their six Premier League games, while they also saw their FA Cup defence end at the first hurdle, losing out to sixth-tier Macclesfield FC.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, City are in the “final stages” of completing a deal for England defender Marc Guehi, Glasner said at the same press conference.<\/p>\n
City have stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old, who came close to joining Liverpool last summer, after being hit with an injury crisis at centre-half.<\/p>\n
“Latest understanding, the deal with Marc is in the final stages,” Glasner said.<\/p>\n
“We can’t confirm, but it is not done. The result is Marc doesn\u2019t play tomorrow for us.<\/p>\n
“When the players want to move on a deal will happen. It looks like it has happened now.<\/p>\n
“Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever. I talked to him, of course, it stays between us. Marc showed it in the summer transfer window, showed it the whole autumn that he was 100% committed to the team and to Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n
“I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He is still at the beginning of his great career. He is a fantastic guy.”<\/p>\n
