Michael Carrick<\/a> has shrugged off Roy Keane<\/a>\u2019s dig regarding his wife \u201cprobably doing the team talk\u201d at Manchester United<\/a> by claiming it does not bother him.<\/p>\n

Keane made the comment about Lisa Carrick after the 44-year-old\u2019s appointment as United head coach until the end of the season. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, the Irishman was responding to Jamie Carragher\u2019s comment that United should not have employed Carrick in the role. \u201cWell, his wife can always come in because she\u2019s got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She\u2019s probably doing the team talk,\u201d Keane said.<\/p>\n

The comment was in clear reference to the falling-out that occurred between Keane and Lisa Carrick in February 2014 and after the former criticised Michael Carrick\u2019s display and postgame comments following United\u2019s 2-0 Champions League loss to Olympiakos. Lisa Carrick responded with a social-media post abusing Keane, which she subsequently deleted.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, it didn\u2019t bother me,\u201d said Carrick in response on Friday. He also brushed off feeling any extra scrutiny from Keane, Gary Neville and other former high-profile United players who work in the media. \u201cThey\u2019re not putting more pressure on me, I don\u2019t feel that,\u201d the former midfielder said. \u201cIt\u2019s just part of it. I understand the role, there\u2019s plenty of opinions around, some are positive, some aren\u2019t so much.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the way of the world, I\u2019m not going to pay too much attention to most of that. It\u2019s not for me to do that. For me and the players and the staff it\u2019s a focus on how we\u2019re going to succeed. That\u2019s our job, that\u2019s our responsibility, that\u2019s what our focus and our minds should be at, is doing what we can for this club.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrick\u2019s first game of his second spell as United\u2019s interim head coach is Saturday\u2019s Manchester derby at Old Trafford. United go into the fixture seventh in the Premier League with 32 points and out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Asked what success this season looks like, Carrick said: \u201cHelp and improve individuals. A big part of what I really enjoy is improving individuals and if you do that you create a better team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is an element of performance, results and doing what it takes to win. The higher up the league we finish the better \u2013 we want to keep pushing and see where that takes us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrick was asked if Omar Berrada, the chief executive, and Jason Wilcox, the director of football, had given him concrete expectations. \u201cNot in terms of it has to be this way or that way,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want to be near the top of the league, we\u2019ve got to take some small steps towards that.
