Derry City have completed the signing of defender Patrick McClean from Sligo Rovers on a two-year deal.<\/p>\n
The move marks a return to his hometown club for the centre-back and also a third spell with the Candystripes where he started his career in 2015.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old, a younger brother of former Republic of Ireland international James McClean, had been at Sligo Rovers since last June.<\/p>\n
He had signed from Belfast side Glentoran and played his part in helping the Bit o’ Red to avoid relegation from the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.<\/p>\n
But he will now line up with a Derry side which finished second in the top flight last season.<\/p>\n
“He is a lad I know well, has spent a lot of time in the Irish League,” said Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch.<\/p>\n
“He has been hugely impressive and it was time to get Paddy home. In my opinion he was the bedrock at Sligo last year. He scored a very good goal against us and had some top quality performance.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, ex-Bohemians full back John Mountney has joined NIFL Premiership outfit Glenavon.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old won five League of Ireland titles and three FAI Cups during the first of two spells at Dundalk between 2012 and 2020.<\/p>\n
The Mayo native spent last season at Bohemians where he went on to make 19 league appearances but departed the Dublin club in November.<\/p>\n
“There’s a lot of young players with some exciting talent. I know they\u2019re better than the current league position suggests and I want to be part of putting that right,” Mountney said of his decision to join Glenavon.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve played a lot of games around the League of Ireland and know what I good club looks like.
