There are renewed calls for another ramp on a section of the Glencar Road in Letterkenny, where the vast majority of drivers are breaking the 50kph limit.<\/p>\n
A council speed survey found that the 85th percentile speed near the McGovern Road junction was 57 kph.<\/p>\n
This junction leads to Gaelscoil Adhamh\u00e1in and several housing estates.<\/p>\n
Councillor Gerry McMonagle has repeated the call for the installation of a ramp to slow traffic in this area.<\/p>\n
He says the figures speak for themselves.<\/p>\n
Cllr McMonagle described the junction as particularly dangerous due to the volume of traffic speeding up on the straight.<\/p>\n
While a footpath exists on the left-hand side, he pointed out that multiple houses are located on the right which have gateways opening directly onto the road.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am asking that we find the money and the resources, and we put in place a ramp to slow traffic and protect the families on that road, particularly the school children crossing the road every single day,\u201d said Cllr McMonagle told this week\u2019s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.<\/p>\n
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh added that he feels the area is no longer safe for walking, stating: \u201cit\u2019s more than one time that footpaths have been mounted up there\u201d.<\/p>\n
Councillor McMonagle said he will continue to raise the issue until action is taken.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll talk about it again and again until we get it,\u201d he told the executive. \u201cYou have the evidence. It\u2019s over to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
In response, Donegal County Council said there is currently no funding available for traffic calming measures at this location. Senior Roads Engineer David McIlwaine said that a further discussion can be held at a Roads workshop when members are considering the 2026 Roads Maintenance Programme for the Municipal District.<\/p>\n
